Re: that next level growl

in an octave that's far too low... This is really what I guess is the most important thing to it. Not saying I would know how to precisely make this sort of growls on purpose but I'm pretty sure if all people on these forums who make growls, would go through their saved growl-patches one by one and...

Re: Best vst synth around

So many good synths out on the market, but it depends what sound you're after. Massive: Easy modulation mapping, great for basses like growls and reeses, but I'm sure we all know creating a unique sound in massive is almost nearly impossible now (for dubstep basses that is, I can still make pretty a...

Re: working on bass

I'm sure you know it's not just a pure sine, it has probably just one extra waveform over the top if it so it has the extra harmonics. So in your synth use a sine wave with a probably a square wave sitting over it and lowpass anything up 1khz. OR Get pure sine bass in one synth, and the square wave ...

Re: (how2moar) Pad sound like that

To achieve eery feels, I find these are some good things to add to your pad (if you know how to get the basic sound of a pad) Reverb (ofc), Chorus, Vibrato, Detune (global detuning on your synth or detuning the osc's separately), creating resonated peaks on the eq on a certain individual harmonic (I...

Re: that next level growl

Make a random growl and process it with granulizer This. It really sounds like the kind of thing granular synthesis can do, but I don't know how it's been applied. It really seems like the kind of thing you'd stumble across rather than 'make' in any explicit way. A combination of certain timbres an...

Re: Help making fat/heavy trap horns?

D-shines trapaholic sample pack and you;re good to go! Just kidding, find a brass sample and play with, pitching it down octaves, adjusting attack and decay times. That sound you shown also does have high ends on it that does sound like a synth, so he probably layered it up with high end distorted s...

Re: Organic/realistic/ambient sounding but still energetic l

Well he's an idiot then. A digital subtractive synth is not the same as an analog synth just cos it has a filter on it. No he's right, people in today's time use the word analogue loosely as an adj. technically it's all digital cause it's a computer software being digitally processed, but the proce...

Re: Organic/realistic/ambient sounding but still energetic l

Also forgot to mention, to sounds we're after are played in major scales. The melody you're playing has a big part to play in what sort of vibe you're after. Any of these exact sounds could be played in minor scales and we'd feel a complete different feel from this, so make sure you're playing upbea...

Re: Organic/realistic/ambient sounding but still energetic l

Np man. Yeah I'd say the glitch mob is more easier than the pendulum one. The one in 9000 miles is so precise with harmonics, I can hear the smoothness of squares/triangles in it though (do not underestimate triangles! they give really nice smoothness with a few extra harmonics so it's not a plain s...

Re: What sound is this at the beginning?

Tbh it could be either of what you said, it also sounds like percussive drums (like bongos) with completely wet reverb. Trial and error methods is all I can reccommend, try both of what you said, and very wet reverb percussion with small decay https://soundcloud.com/gannon211/dark-intentions-free-do...

Re: Organic/realistic/ambient sounding but still energetic l

Yeah relistening to pendulum I can say imo it's certain frequencies that have been removed, leaving certain harmonics then slightly distorting the harmonics (maybe individually). I'd say a square with a saw sitting an octave or two above. I'm no expert for sure, but I have a fair amount of sound des...

Re: Organic/realistic/ambient sounding but still energetic l

You'll be able to make these out of saws and squares, with say an octave or two apart. Some sort of distortion was added for the glitch mob sounds with vibrato, really tightly distorted in certain frequencies (You got ohmnicide? great for multi frequency distortion). Filtering and Distortion is the ...

The "growl" was invented in 2002

OK so most people will say Skrillex was the first guy to make a growl bass, I used to think that too, until today. So I know of Artwork for being a major influence to dubstep especially for his tune "Red", and today I decided to listen to his Red EP from 2002.. On his tune "Rolex Ridd...

Re: Tip for drums in FL studio

I prefer Fruity Limiter too, or actually getting any sample, mute it, and make it as a trigger to control the threshold on whatever compressor I'm using. What you're doing produces the same result (kinda) and I wouldn't say no to it, but I can imagine in project where you have tons of layers that th...

Do you ever jam out to your own tunes?

Haven't been on DSF in a long time, getting back into the music now which I'm happy 'bout. I was listening to my older tracks to see how I've improved, and where I can improve still. I realised my production techniques could of been better, but for the actual tune's their self I fukn love them. Obvi...

You certainly got the production skills, mixdowns are nice and I can tell the you've used effects effectively. Like the vibe of the EP, proper rolling basses and dub feel to it! Nice work :W: Soundcloud

Like the vibe and atmosphere man, I personally think it could have a better mix though, like sidechain on some of synths so the kick can come through more!:) something to do for future tracks? Soundcloud
