Re: Jah Shaka & Sound System Culture

Been checking Shaka out for probably around 6 years now! The sessions down The Rocket have been my favourite but Dingwalls, Sliverspoon, The Dom, Brixton Jamm, Tudor Rose, Concorde 2 (Brighton) etc have all been pretty epic. The atmosphere, ceremony, ritual, spiritual vibe and general appreciation o...

I hear they have installed new subs down Plastic People!

Can anyone confirm? If so, what is the sound like?

Re: Bloc 2012

A proper DJ feeds of the crowd and vibes on the night. DJs also bring vibes but for it to be a decent night out both parties have to play there part. Granted a few times I have seen amazing sets that the crowd just didn't get. I'm not self concious so it won't stop me from enjoying myself but it wil...

Re: Bloc 2012

Cambridge people living in East London flex....... Aren't they the fucking worst? Such tight trousers. Wearing second hand jumpers, torn blazers and all sporting beards! Resident Advisor crew all over. Fucking ruined enough nights over the last couple years. Actually much prefer DnB crowds, soulful...

Re: Last night's FWD at Plastic People at all time low??

Quick question: if i put a CD wallet on the platter (NOT the tonearm) Is it doing harm to the turntable? Probably not doing a massive amount of harm as 1210s are built like tanks but with DJs constantly abusing decks in this way it probably doesn't help in the long run. Putting anything on the tone...

Re: Bloc 2012

Nah! I could crash round my friends place in Shoreditch but it isn't the same. The BLOC crowd are OK but when the Resident Adviser knobs from East London jump all over this the vibe will be spoiled by cheap drugs and people trying to be into the various sounds. Cambridge people living in East London...

Re: Last night's FWD at Plastic People at all time low??

I haven't been to FWD in ages but I agree for bass music Plastic People has pretty much had its day! I like the new soundsystem when Theo Parrish plays on it but I agree it could still be louder. I find it strange that even some of the dubstep pioneers that swear by vinyl are switching to CD. I'm pr...

I paid a pretty penny to have this album shipped from Detroit but had to have Soul Control on vinyl!

Re: Who Still Buys Vinyl?

Vinyl (apart from when I get hold of a CD on the cheap for my car). In no particular order: 1. Prefer the feel and like the art work 2. I work with a PC all day so the last thing I want to do is look at another screen (that also includes television) 3. Older releases aren't available digitally 4. Vi...

Bristol Crew – What’s on this weekend? (Fri 20th & Sat 21st)

Yo I am in Bristol this weekend and wouldn’t mind hitting a few clubs, bars, restaurants and anything you think is worth checking out. Friday is sorted as there appears to be a decent line up at Basement 45 but other than that nothing else has been planned apart from a visit to St Nick’s market and ...

Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?

I have only been once for Theo Parrish and I have to say the system was crisp and clear but had very little bottom end. Can't understand why they have moved the DJ booth and getting in and out of the dancefloor was much worse than before. I like the darkness but in some places it was so dark I can s...

Re: Best/worst sound system you have heard?

Interesting but unsurprising how everyone has approach this thread! Bass weight: Valve (back in the day): They mostly only play rubbish on it these days, hardly use it and when they do they put it in a rubbish venue. Bring back the days of Brixton Mass Aba-Shanti-I: Pretty bone crushing bass when th...

Re: Discuss about Benji B` BBC 1 Show ... tried and failed ?

I really like the new show and he still plays some of the best music being produced today however it is a shame the show is only 2 hours long! When he had 3 hours he would squeeze in old and new jazz, funk, soul, rare groove, experimental, dub, latin sounds, hip hop, disco etc The new format seems t...

Re: DMZ 25th Sept

By the way don't eat at MacDonalds!

There is a really tasty West Indian take away on Cold Harbour Lane that is open till around 6.30/7am.

Loads of tasty food and a perfect end to any night (plus it will reduce your hangover unlike the crap air filled food at MacDonalds)

Re: DMZ 25th Sept

Anyone see the mini fight! Proper stupid and killed the vibes for me. Not cool! Dunno who that was behind the stage and the guy in the crowd was a fool. Pokes should have told them both to "FUCK OFF". Haha I actually much prefered the other styles. Loefah and Moxie were the sets for me! Ja...
