Re: 80/90's synthesizers for around £100?

there's been proteus's floating around NYC for years-- maybe even a decade-for literally $80. definitely not worthless, but they are as short in the "fun to play with" dept. as they are long in good sound. similar w/ the JV stuff-- they sound great right out of the box, but i gave up tryin...

Re: Hardware/Pedal/etc that changes tempo

When recycle came along in... 2000? 2001? it was a godsend because historically, to change tempo, you had to slice stuff by ear/hand and then sequence in order to change tempo via a sampler. Any sampler can change the tempo of something-- you just speed it up or slow it down. If you want to use a ha...

Re: Monitors or treatment?

i built a whole new round of OC 703 bass traps in August/Sept-- was able to source them locally, and they were VERY inexpensive. 3 2" and 3 4" thick 703 panels from here, about $100: http://www.buyinsulationproductstore.com/acoustic-panel-materials/ all told 4 4" thick and 2 2" t...

Re: (Advice) Getting to the next level in music production

This sounds to me like it's less a Q about nuts-and-bolts production, and more like a Q about how to grow an on-the-ground following. If there's no scene for the music you love locally, no venue's that consistently book it-- do it yourself. Find the deadest venue in town and book a dubstep night on ...

Re: anyone recommend a hardware analogue delay

^ having gotten my 301 back from Australia a few weeks ago, where it lived for a couple of (very expensive) months getting repaired-- TAKE CARE OF YOUR SPACE ECHO clean the heads, clean the capstans, replace the felts and tape when needed. owning one of these is a long-term financial commitment, and...

Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question

But also remember that the attack time doesn't mean that the compressor waits 10 ms before applying any gain reduction if the comp has got soft-knee or over-easy (dbx) compression, yeah, as the amount of compression changes around the threshold, but if it's extremely hard-knee-- Elysia mpressor com...

Re: U-he Presswerk anyone?

at least in Logic, having an instrument channel selected takes up a ton of CPU power-- the comp is waiting for incoming info. There's been plenty of times where just selecting an empty channel has made an ever-growing gargantuan project play back smoother. finishing up a record over the last few day...

Re: U-he Presswerk anyone?

curious.

i tend to feel like i've got all my bases covered between Mpressor, 1176/2a/3a, rcomp, and ff comp and multiband-- not that there aren't plenty of other great comp plugs out there, but what am i missing by not having this one?

Re: Genelec 1030A : Opinions?

From what I remember of a few years ago, 1030s were detailed and exiting to monitor on.

Also left me totally exhausted. Then again, was probably listening too loud.

I definitely always remember being impressed by how solid the
Genny's sounded in the lows.

Re: Why is an Analogue-type eq vst considered better than a

Analog EQ is only "better" subjectively. A 200 dollar hardware analog EQ is probably not going to sound better than say a FabFilter EQ (whatever they call it). different tools for different purposes. Even the $10,000 massenburg EQ can't do what the Fabfilter pro-Q can do. And don't even g...

Re: How do you process vocals

How do you EQ a vocal before you build a track for it? Not trolling, just curious. you can clean up a vocal-- take out whatever's going on in the useless super-low region, multi-band out some resonances, de-ess if the S's are ugly, and brighten up if it needs it. Can't think of a vocal i've worked ...

Re: help pairing an amp to my dynaudio bm15p monitors

There's tons of info on this on the interwebs; gearslutz alone has a bevy of info. 99.5% of the folks here have powered monitors. get the best amperage that you can afford, and over-power your speakers-- makes the cones work less, gets you clearer transients, and just might save you some years on yo...
