but I like to DJ you're going to want/need two sets of cans then. headphones for dj'ing you want heavy and loud. for studio you want them to be flat frequency response across as broad a range as possible (some go as wide as 10hz-25khz). the sony mdr and pioneer dj series for example colour the soun...

dead simple to do with fm synthesis actually. you'll want a noise oscillator mixed with one or more sawtooth or sinewave oscillators (at very low volume) your envelope for the static/noise should have a sharp attack and depending on how 'open' you want it, a short or long tail but at much lower volu...

i never thought i'd find anything as dead-simple as fruitytracks (not fruityloops; dead product by same guys) now that i've spent a couple of days in ableton's arrange view, there's no going back to anything else. not even cubase. as for renoise/other next-gen trackers -- if i never see another colu...

good luck finding a used fs1r -- anyone who's got one isn't letting it go. there isn't really a bad time to use fm synthesis. once you add filters into the mix it's the same as anything else, imho. oscillator(s) + filter = subtractive. even a monosynth using a ring mod is a 2-osc fm synth (ring mod ...

electribe esx1 to get the whole idea, all the phrasing, and most of the fx and step-edits to fx/filter/etc.
then record each part and tweak with 10-band eq individually on the 'puter, then multitrack the structure of the tune itself.
render down and clean up. done!

"You hear that ringing in your ears? That 'e e e e ee'? That's the sound of your ear cells dying. Once it stops you'll never be able to hear that frequency again. Enjoy it while it lasts." -- Children of Men not just a movie quote - this is actually true. clusters of cells in your ears are...

what the 1000 lacks in glossy features like mp3 & data cd playback it gains in total stability and dead-on ability to scratch-cue.
800 and below lag a bit in that regard. noticably.

from what i've seen there's lots more parking available south of Houston than north of it... try down by Grand or Broome & 6th ave... bit of a walk, but 10 or so blocks won't kill ya.

getting back on topic, i am looking forward to this.
