Handbrake is also great (and extremely fast) for ripping DVDs. I get 80+ fps ripping DVDs to MPEG4 on my dual G5, 30-40 fps ripping to h.264…

I think you need to update your WireTap, mine runs fine on Tiger…

Audio Hijack is comparable to WireTap

fantastic track, excellent groove, spacious, tight and hard all at the same time. The snares have a good balance between snappy-ness and reverb.

I like the weird musicality of the intro.

The sub is very nice, very well defined.

Q&A…

Hi everyone, thanks for all the feedback. I've been busy for a while, but now I'm back. I'll try to answer some of the questions in no particular order: I found the vocal by googling for "adhan mp3". "Adhan" is the call to prayer. I chose this particular recording because it fits...

I had a go at fixing the track using prismatic7 and narcossists suggestions, and I think it's a definite improvement. I've upped the new version but left the old links above so you can compare the two versions. Here's version two: http://andreas-krautwald.com/music/Adhan_Dub_v2.mp3 And here's a zipp...

Thanks a lot prismatic7 for the feedback, I'm looking forward to hearing what you're working on. I'll have a go at touching up the snares, give them some SNAP! and beef up the kicks a bit and see how it works out. I'll post the follow up here in this thread. I've uploaded a .zip for those of you who...

the atmospherics and soundeffects are great. I think the mix could use a bit of work, the sound is a bit flat when the beat+bass drops after the intro.

Hey zacharia,

yes, the link above goes straight to the 320 kbps .mp3 version. By all means download it, burn it, spread it around. If you want .wav or .aiff let me know…

Thanks a lot. I'm not trying to build massive bangers, I'm just trying to evoke a bit of dub in dubstep. That's why the bassline is a low, pulsing sub and the drums are fairly spacious and light. That's the intent anyway. The result may vary, especially as I've got neither the studio nor the experie...

The beat is great, very shuffle-y, and I really like the kick and snare samples. The slow crashes are spot on, the hi-hats not so much. They feel a bit too rigid to my ears. the bassline is very dominant. It sounds to me like it's taking up too much of the frequency band, leaving very little room in...

new track, with Arab vocals

Here's a 320 of it: http://andreas-krautwald.com/music/Adhan_dub.mp3

It's straight from Reason, so the mix is a bit rough…

yes, VERY nice track. Basically break up the drums a bit and beef up the sub. But whatever you do, don't lose the smoothness. I can't wait to hear the finished track.

rekall just summed up my thoughts on dubstep perfectly. As for the tempo, I posted a 105 BPM track ( http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2228 ) and no one thought it was too slow, so I'd say there's good room for experimenting. Of course, if you're producing for the dancefloor it makes good sens...

I really feel the beat and the bass, but the intro and vocal seem a bit 'off' somehow… I think it has the potential to become a real killer. Maybe if the track was a bit more focused on the groove.

Interesting. I really like your synths and the bass is pretty heavy.

No doubt, this is proper Vikingstep!

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a go at adding some action to the highs and I'll try to even the mix out a bit. I may have gotten a bit carried away with the snare… The crackling is not a problem with the mix, it only appeared in the mp3 when I uploaded it to the forum. Here's a link to a zipped mp...
