Re: Some sample sites (absolute gems)

http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.html - Good quality multi samples of instruments thanks for this. you might check this site as well: http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/music/ need to browse it a bit to find different samples. they have been recorded at unusual samplerates, so you should convert them t...

Re: Songs losing bass when they are sped up?

Have you considered that it might be your room? It's possible that your pitched up bassline hits a frequency that is cancelled out because of your room acoustics. Try listening to a slow sine sweep and see if the response is flat. If there is a frequency that seems more quit than the others, that mi...

Re: Sub Bass

I am only trying to push them to play with the buttons, make music and ignore the science for now. i mostly agree to that. i think when making tunes, it's all about feeling and creativity, BUT, the more knowledge about audio you have in the background, the more you will improve the mixdowns, arrang...

Re: Sub Bass

Sorry to be pedantic but you said that RMS is the perceived loudness in a previous post. Loudness is affected by the equal loudness contours (a psychoacoustic phenomenon) and many other elements/phenomena. Therefore, RMS is literally what it says it is, root mean square, merely a statistical tool f...

Re: Sub Bass

And, RMS isn't necessarily the percieved level, unless it takes into account the equal loudness contours (see Fig. 1)? http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fx_files/7028/1/iso226.jpg (Fig. 1 Ideas taken from ISO 266) that's an interesting question, of course the equal loudness contours will alter...

Re: Sub Bass

Isn't dynamic range the difference between the lowest rms level (probably the noise of the system) and the highest peak level? not exactly sure what you mean by lowest RMS level... there can only be one RMS value at a time, so theoratically if you use a sample rate of 44,1 khz, that would be 44,100...

Re: Sub Bass

in general, RMS is a mathematical function http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_mean_square
the RMS level comes very close to the human perception of loudness, as RMS does not only consider peaks, but more the average level of sound.

Re: Yet more questions about cutting dubs...

I think I'm finally going to take the plunge and cut some dubs. Good decision. Is there also a way of hearing the differences between PVC and Acetate dubs, even though I'm sold on the latter? There is a slight difference, which is hardly noticeable in the club. I prefer PVC plates as they last much...

Re: waldorf blofeld

I had it for a year and it's nice for the amounts of features and wavetable synthesis, but you have to step through alot of pages, even though it has 6 controllers and the volume poti. If you have 600 bucks to spend, i would look for a synth with loads of faders and potis to program sounds much fast...
