The everlasting wanna be dubplates dont sound nearly as good as ol' fashion Dubplates. Those newer units dont have feedback on the cutterhead so the hi frequency sounds like doo doo. they might not last as long but def... sound better. plus how can you compare an add on piece of metal to a 1200 ...
I have listened to the vinyl dubplates and Scrutinized the machines that cut them and to be honest they are not there yet in terms of the ability to cut a consitantley good sound.At Transition we are continually searching for ways to raise the bar in terms of what can be cut and what tools we use ...
and generally speaking, vinyl gives a much warmer sound due to its dynamic range as apposed to cd. but i doubt this is the reason most people chose not to hand out cd-r's.

i dont think acetate can be cut louder than vinyl........i havent compared tho (due to incredible high acetate prices;-) there is a physical level limit on both medias..+12dbs. i just depends on how the music is mixed ...
