if I knew I would never lose them...

well, I start projects, play some sounds, bounce them and leave somewhere on the HD and I backup everything about once a month, so, if I record a cd and can´t find the project, the audio is already on the session and them I can work with it.

layer always samples with good frequence ranges... like one for mid and one for high, compress them, eq, shape the envelope, reverb...
try as much as possible till u get the results u want...
