Re: Minimal Dubstep Mastering

Are you suggesting something you do when you self master takes away from the quality of the mix-down itself? can you be more specific? is it less dynamic? distorted?

Re: A few questions!

Be very wary about adding exciters or trickery to the entire track, or mix buss if you will. You'll notice the positive effects on some elements way before the negative effects of the rest! ALWAYS A-B!

A well balanced mixed with no trickery always compresses better, and always makes the louder master! :4:

Re: Stereo master bus

Good article. In reality it's simple to me: Is it for creative or corrective reasons regarding the mix? It's cool Is it for loudness / maximising level? it's not I've done things in mixes on the master bus in MS for example, cut the bass from the S in one foul swoop, sounds good. Not really creative...

Re: Guides: Mastering & Dithering

I often think dither is used to try and make people who don't "get it" feel inadequate. Dither is very simple in practical terms, if you are staying at the same Bit Depth when you export, dont do it. If you are going down to 16, do it. Pretty simple! People who discuss dither might want to...

it's all about skills and experience Skills and experience is what bring about the understanding that offering mastering services using small speakers is inappropriate. Why not find out for yourself first hand, instead of reciting another persons view. Don't confuse hearsay, with knowledge. When yo...

Re: Best/Cheapest way to soundproof the tits out of a room?

Rockwool panels covering the wall in question.

Buy some rockwool cheap from a wholesaler, cover it in material.

That is the answer.

Re: So who actually cuts dubplates?

I've had cuts by both Henry and Jason and would happily recommend either. Both have been super communicative at good guys regarding being "in the same biz" as them also, make of that what you will.

Re: Best Online EDM Mastering Services Under $40

Some mastering engineers, including myself, will offer either a free full track or snippit of a track as a demo for your first track, I would suggest finding a few of these folks and sending them all the same material and seeing what comes back best :)

Re: My first outboard gear.

I have two pieces here at Subsequent Mastering(and a third which is now sold) built by the same guy (Mark Watson) who built Jon Outbounds compressor. The first is a stepped stereo mastering version of the old Sontec MEP250 mastering EQ from the early 70s. It's one hell of an eq, 5 bands parametric. ...

Re: Mastering tutorial: what it can do, what it can't do

save some money and pick up katz book on the subject mastering audio: the art and science I'm going to be that guy that points out that Bob Katz's book is all right but is really one man's experience of mastering and covers a lot of stuff which is not massively relevant to dubstep artists looking f...

Re: DJ Q - Brandy and Coke

i've yet to hear anything inspiring come out of the bassline scene I know a few folks have posted already, but while a lot of the other garagey sub genres were off chasing their own tails musically, the "dead" bassline scene has produced some of the most bonkers and out there UK dance mus...
