No, actually most common is to use a tuba or even a detuned bagpipe through a wahwah guitar pedal. Works a charm. Pump the pedal to make a wobble.
I'm a bit lazy in searching a good synth for the wobble bass by my self any help ?

Also, as mentioned, don't waste on outboard unless you've treated your room and have very good converters first. Personally though, I'd rather spend on a good bus compressor first just to haz a flavor. An SSL G clone or maybe an API 2500 fed into some nice iron at the end for flavor and gentle satur...
