Re: Real Steppers?

More like the emphasis on the 1, 3, 7 & 13, like that track "high plains drifter" by goldspot productions & sholay, classic track.

Real Steppers?

I'm getting pretty sick of the standard dubstep beat with the snare on the 9th beat, what happened to that old skool dubstep with the sped up ragga beat? Does anyone still make that, any artists I should look for? I really miss that old dubstep sound, stripped back with crisp steppy beats and minima...

I find old dub/reggae tracks are a goldmine for these sounds. Look for solos/breakdowns. The advantage of this is they come with their own analogue grittyness.

Chubbs - Shaolin, what do you think?

Here's a new one I've been working on. Just about finished but I need some feedback. Thanks for listening!

FL Studio makes shite MP3's! I suggest exporting a wav then using soundforge or wavelab, etc to master then MP3 it.

^^ Good point, I been using one for pretty much all my home mastering just because I thought that was the done thing. Subtlety is the key though. If you compress anything too hard it will sound shitty.

I've done a lot more work on this, got rid of some un-needed flab and tightened it up. The old link still works so there's a comparison. The new version was rendered from FL studio as seperate channels and mixed down in cubase. http://www.esnips.com/doc/0884d09e-964a-449b-a062-210681530fe5/chubbs---...

Dub Chamber. Another old chubbstepper. Checkit.

I started this one a couple of years back. Maybe 3. I've listened to it way too much but I just gave it a bit of a polish. Pretty oldskool but I'd like some opinions about what to throw away to make it sound more dubsep. There's a lot going on. http://www.esnips.com/doc/60492608-444b-45a2-9e7d-ad4a5...

this may be a bit much but a tutorial on multiband compression would be ace :!: anyone have the knowledge? Best left for mastering but can be used to beef up breaks, etc. I found this tutorial a while back on mastering that showed how to make cubase into a multi band compressor - it makes it much e...

My one hangup with FL is still the sound quality of the mixer which is why I still use Cubase for the final mixdown. The difference in quality is quite noticable. Cubase just sounds solid. I thought FL had sorted it out with version 7 but no, it's still got that thin sound. Ideally I'd be re-wiring ...

^^ What I sometimes do is use the layer channel to make the first kick and first snare of a sliced break trigger a seperate kick & snare. Just makes beat programming easier. Another cool FL feature is the peak controller - put it over a percussion track, say and assign it to say a bass filter cu...

My best fruity tip: Use good quality plugins! The built in sampler, slicer and 3X osc are very useful and versatile but just don't sound that solid compared to some quality 3rd party plugins (albino, vstation, anything native instruments). The new sampler, direct wave that comes with FL is a definat...

^^ That would work. Most dubstep these days is half time so it is essentially around 68-70bpm. Double that and you get 136-140.

fl7 has made sequencing sooo much easier. Don't have to use the crappy pattern sequencer at all now, u make your patterns into clips and arrange them in the same horizontal track. Then if you want to change a pattern go 'make unique' & u have a duplicate to mess with. I've just gone back to frui...

wow, can't believe all the people doing 140 and up. I came to dubstep from house & breaks and generally start a dubstep track at 134. I think dubstep is already falling into the trap that d&b then breaks have already fallen into (and still lay there starting to rot, imo). Maximum diversity a...

^ True. Some iknd of melodic lead maybe? I wish I could do melody. Since I started that track over 3 yaers ago my production skills have improved big time but my composition and arrangement skills needs haeps of work. The whole thing's done in fruity loops. Think I might render out the channels and ...
