Like everything in music, there are many ways to do this. Probably the most interesting way would be to figure it out yourself and (in the process) possibly develop an original idea that may have added benefits that no one else is doing, but there are many tried and true.. If you're going for someth...

Running Live 6 on Vista with at least 100 VST's, and only having a problem with one of them. I really didn't want Vista, but were charging more for a build with XP, so I went for it and it's not as bad as some made it out to be. Turn off all the stupid bells and whistles (aero interface, etc), and i...

I second that...good advice.

Is that really why people do that? I thought it was a bandwidth thing. I wouldn't want any of my stuff listened to at 128...especially dubstep.

Not sure about the sub thing. I've considered it a couple of times, but they one's I've looked at don't seem to offer a 'significant' bass response increase to my RP-8's in order to justify the expense. I mix subs on my stereo, which has a great low end.

At one point I had a huge studio of hardware, and sold it all off as software became more feasible as a replacement, but have started buying some hardware again...microKORG, MS-20, circuit bent TR-505 & SK-1, etc. What can I say, I love toys.

Nothing wrong with Reason. Have you read this?

Subtractor is a perfectly good 'analogue' synth for your bass, and with samplers & ReDrum for percussion you're ready to go.

And I thought I was the only one who ran into this problem. I have a laptop that Sound Forge & Audacity works fine on for this, and another laptop and PC that neither works on. I noticed in Audacity that the input selections differ from machine to machine, so I imagine it's a (internal) sound ca...

Got one, and it sounds great, but I don't really use it for anything other than an expensive toy. I'd tell you what I use for bass, but then I'd have to kill you, and I'm too pretty for jail.

Guess it could be said again...do what you like. If that's what you like, and how you write, then who cares if it fits neatly into any category. Personlly I don't like it at all when my stuff fits the wikipedia description of a genre.

Freesound isn't a bad resource at all, but sometimes it seems to me it would be easier to just get a mic and start beating on stuff rather than browse that site.

I dig Live for sequencing/performance, but go download some VST's. There are plenty for free, but even more for those who know where to look (and lack sympathy for the Company). Interested?
