What do you mean by 'Cohesive beat'? Do you mean something that sounds like a real drummer could have played it, as in a natural flow, or do you mean like having sounds that compliment eachother well?

Nope, might try this in future, although massive snare isn't really my style, I usually prefer something lighter. I sometimes layer with pitched-up claps though.

I've made some pretty good coki-sounding stuff with Reason's Subtractor before. I'm not talking about filthy Sponge Bob sounds-like-someone-hoovering style bass, I mean more the kinda thing he uses on Volvic and Red Eye. Nice sine sub with dirty overtones.

Control Surfaces

My next purchase for my home studio is going to be a control surface for Reason 4/Cubase. Does anyone have any reccomendations? I guess what i'm looking for most is something that's easy to use, inexpensive and good for controling filter freq/res osc volumes etc etc, i'm hoping to sculpt some nice '...

problems monitoring sub bass

ok, i'm monitoring on proper studio monitor speakers and a studio sub. When I'm sitting right between the main speakers everything sounds great, but when I move back a bit, the sub takes over the mix completely. I know this will happen anyway to a certain extent because of how the different frequenc...

thanks for the feedback guys, I really like the idea of adding static and field recordings to it, I might start doing that.

Loving the bass line, those short stuttering phrases are really effective. I must admit i'm not much of a fan of those trancey synth sounds you used in places, but that's just me. I can imagine this being a fantastic song to MC over actually, that way the sample could work kind of like a chorus. Goo...

Do you mean your actual computer is emitting a 'hum' or that there is a hum coming through your monitors and you figure it's originating in your computer? If the second is the case then get a ground loop isolator, did the trick for me. http://www.radioshack.com/sm-see-all-needs-and-wants--pi-206221...
