Re: What Joy Orbison used to make.
cool. apparently now the only thing he makes is accusations of copyright infringement on youtube, forcing people to remove videos of his tunes. that and some sick collabs with boddika. this. seen a couple of take downs with joyO as one of the complainers yeah what is that all about? must be a mista...

Re: Logic 9 Adaptive limiter
no, it should sound ok if you're only taking 2 or 3 dB off the master out (and you don't have any other limiters or compressors on there). But the Adaptive Limiter is not always the best tool for the job; IIRC it is designed to sound a bit ragged. Try the normal limiter to see if that's any improvem...

Re: Logic 9 Adaptive limiter
it's a compressor. if you're gaining 2dB in volume, then you're losing 2dB in dynamic range. you'll find the adaptive limiter will, in general, smear the transients off some of your drums, although if you're only taking 2dB off then it shouldn't be too prominent. try jacking up the input gain so it'...

Re: Sending Logic files
if you and your friend both have legit copies of Logic then you only need to check the boxes for EXS/Space Designer/Ultrabeat/etc if you've used your own patches or impulse responses. That should save some space, especially if you've used a strings or piano patch on the EXS... also, have you looked ...

Re: Blogging 101!?
just get hustling basically. write regularly, and consistently. scour the net for things to write about, draw attention to, and for a while, spam the arse off your facebook friends, local forums etc. then, go round every blog you can find in your style and see if they want a link swap. as for interv...

Re: Want to buy tunes with separate stems?
It's a good idea but what's the deal with releasing remixes for copyright purposes and royalties etc? basically, 'don't sell it'. Here's the blurb from the label page (http://bassmusic.bandcamp.com/album/two-blocks-down-stems-pack) : These stems are free to use for 'personal' use; put them in your ...

Re: Fuck the loudness wars
that was Death Magnetic, the CD version. Apparently the version on Guitar Hero wasn't so bad - seems like they listened to fans concerns.
here was a pretty good post about it by a mastering engineer

Re: Time signature deciphering....
^^ yep
sounds like straight up 4/4 to me, just that there generally is no kick on the first beat of the bar. the intro is pretty complex but it's in 4/4 too and resolves after 8 bars

Re: Producers and Day Jobs?
i would say that if you're keeping up a steady schedule of releases on decent-sized, fairly established labels - let's say 6 or 7 a year - and gigging as much as you cna, then you'll probably be able to quit your day job. but it'll probably involve somewhat of a pay cut. if you've got a mortgage or ...

Sennheiser HD280 pro. Simple as that. I respect your opinion from all the stuff you posted on doa and on here, and well..... are these headphones really worth buying if you i already have semi decent headphones? I know you recommend them time and time again, but would you rate them better than the ...

Re: macbok for production?
been running a 2007 white macbook (not pro) for nearly 3 years now. it's a core2 duo with logic 8, and I can still get up to about 65 channels going without having to bounce anything. but then i don't use any of these massively CPU intensive plugins, although most logic native shit is so good you do...

Re: generic breakdown swooshes
yeah it can be quite fun making these - (cooledit / Audition is absolutely the nuts for it) - start with some filtered and delayed white noise, or even just a metallic clank which you've timestretched the fuck out of. then bounce down, add more reverb, timestretch more, sample it, pitch bend it, bou...
