Re: Gear lust

Wow, prices for those have really shot up! I see a few on ebay for over a grand now! At that price, it makes sense to go new 500 series over the vintage units. I used to see them in the $400-$600 range all the time

Re: Gear lust

Yeah, that seems to be where the used price has settled to. They used to go for like $250! Seems like people have rediscovered them, maybe because of the SoftTube plugin. But I've put music purchases on hold until I finish a house project. ;) Maybe next month

Re: Gear lust

Well everything is ROHS compliant at this point, so you're no longer inhaling lead fumes :) but it still smells terrible. Just hold your breath when actually melting solder and it's not too bad. These kits and their documentation are really good and super easy. Other than the LEDs it's all novice le...

Re: Gear lust

@Lucifa: if you are even basically aquatinted with a soldering iron, I highly recommend these: http://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/collections/colour And a used 500 series 2 space rack shouldn't set you back too far while allowing for a huge range of amazing analog processing treatment in a small s...

Re: Gear lust

We recently set up our patchbay so that the channel outputs on the mixer are normalled to the first 24 inputs of our ADC. Mixes basically multitrack themselves now, no patching necessary. For complete recalls, we just have to send the channels out to the mixer and leave all faders at 0dB. It's been ...

Re: Hardware/Pedal/etc that changes tempo

Yup. I know a few people who dj with them, combining full tracks, loops and one shot samples sequenced on the fly. Octatrack keeps everything synced perfectly, even thru tempo changing madness.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER

@RADD: Thanks! Chord sound is two malekko anti oscillators and a plan b model 15 osc thru the sEM20 filter. Kick is tip top 808 module. Screechy melody is a delay line with a resonant filter patched into the feedback loop. When patched like this they act almost like a pair of synced oscillators, wit...

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER

OH snap! TUNA came early this week? I actually had time yesterday to get something recorded in between jobs, thought I had until Saturday to work it a bit more, but anyways, here is one for me: https://soundcloud.com/knobgoblin/moddub Kinda sparse because I ran out of patch cables and this is a 100%...

Re: Gear lust

I love the way the Mirage sounds. Such texture and character. I'm a huge fan of some 80's and 90's industrial music where these feature heavily. I would absolutely love it if someone made a modern sampling keyboard with VCF's and VCA's, but with the option to use a clean modern ADC or a discrete lof...

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER

Our are mostly set up as thru's. The only normalization is between the converters and the mixer in both directions.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER

Epic rewire of 2015 is finally completed, hope to rejoin the TUNA train with a jam session tomorrow. We added an XPanda to the XDesk so now we have 24 tracks on faders rather than 8 :). It took about 15 hours to undo and then redo all the wiring in the studio! I'm sure I'm gonna have a nightmare whe...

Sadly, the opcode era was the last time computers were able to output rock solid midi sync. It's all been downhill from there

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER

yeah, i have that game and the sound is such a huge part of the gameplay experience. I moved my old krk V8's up to the living room for movies and games after I got my new monitors, so I'm hearing that game in a much higher fidelity than most people ever will, but they really got something right abou...

Re: Gear lust

I recently played around with my buddies keys. Was very shocked at how good it sounded for the price. I don't remember it being too noisey. The filter was really cool. Different sound than my ms20. I remember being very impressed with the bass sounds I could create with it. I have room in my setup f...
