I went external, it give me easy access to hook up different bits of kit, and easy level controls.

don't think you will find noticeabley better quality from choosing an internal card.

have got an external card as well, but in terms of cpu-load there is a difference between an internal pci or pci ...

I think actually a lot of the equipment nowadays does not need converters anymore, you could simply use a different external power supply (12V or 9V)

spot on, it is a soundcard as well, I got mine at a cash converters for £170.

you might want to avoid cutting too much of the low end of your sounds,
warmth is typically generated between 50 and 100 hz, so cut of the sub-bass but not all the bass,..

I am not saying you should boost the mix in that area as it might just change the sound of the bassline / kick depending on ...

As you can see I do not really use the old midi keyboard, but when I get my 15" bass amp back I will sample some of the old organ sounds with plenty of sub ;-)
The stage piano is a blessing however :-)
