Re: "Silk Road" online drug market raided in NYC

Not really followed the story too closely but I read the indictment, from that the guy sounds like a bit of a pratt tbh. Scheming to get an ex-colleague tortured and killed with an undercover - and then paying the (UC) middleman in non-bitcoin cash. I've never been particularly interested in this de...

Re: Shit Cover Versions

this cover pisses me off alot.. I like Suede, but something about it just properly does my head in. Maybe because it's TOO similar to Robert Wyatt's version, with a shit little solo in the middle.

Got paid, I'm rolling around in new material http://libcom.org/files/images/library/Q.jpg Really good bit of historical fiction about the Reformation, and more specifically Thomas Muntzer and his more radical form of protestantism http://images.harpercollins.co.uk/hcwebimages/hccovers/051800/051875-...

Re: Fry's open letter / Anti-gay policies in Russian olympic

Plans to open 83 'concentration' camps were announced last weekend. Mass round ups of migrant populations in Moscow suburbs. Key opposition leader Limonov detained by security forces, along with 20 other protesters for an unsanctioned rally. (Waiting eagerly for the English translations of the Limon...

Re: Engineer Wins NSA Award, Then Says NSA Should Be Abolish

Well yeah that was the Church Committee, see also the groundswell of anti-statist (in the sense of the deep state[at first, anyway]) and often first term democrats that were elected in '74 after Watergate. They played a big part in putting a decent bit of Freedom of Information legislature in place ...

Re: Engineer Wins NSA Award, Then Says NSA Should Be Abolish

It's just because as soon as one gets clamped down on/light shone upon another pops up/gains its funding in its place (though admittedly the Church Committee and the Pike Committee actually had some sort of effect for a brief while until Reagan) unless there's a coherent political movement in place ...

Spent all of today sitting in the corner of a classroom drawing stupid shit and occasionally taking down notes.

I am being paid to be in school. My 15 year old self is raging at the injustice of it all.

Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!

my office is incredibly posh, mainly oxford graduates and phD students. One girl was ranting about people with shit diets, and if only they were properly educated they could eat well all the time - told her that I had fry ups every morning for the last two summers before doing roofwork/labouring, sh...

a history of the CIA's activities in South America throughout the 21st Century? Thanks not read them but Philip Agee's Inside the Company (written by a CIA whistleblower back in the 70s) and Schlesinger's Bitter Fruit (about Guatemala) are both well regarded. A bit more general but very good is Edw...
