I usually eq it first, get the freqs out that I don't want. Then compress and eq it 'into' the mix. But, i'm no expert and I don't have a typical dubstep sound.
I don't like to use stereo wideners in a mix too much, they're unpredictable. I have to have it I use it near the end of the fx-chain, or ...

but what's the difference between an established producer getting infected with dubstep and wanting to make a dubstep tune, and some random kid like me wanting to make a dubstep tune..? I ask...it can still be sincere
