Re: Dub production question

hmmm cheers bro do you reckon, for instance, that the compressor was applied after the song was finished? it kind of seems so integral to the feel of the track that i'd be tempted to whack it on from the beginning... is this kosher? i presume this is also what flylo and donuts-era dilla do too, so i...

Re: Totally uninspired

best advice i heard - 'don't try and write a song. once you try, you're fucked' ...which i've always interpretted as 'don't bother trying to make a song if you don't naturally get some sort of interesting idea come to you first' zomby always says that he effectively has the songs finished in his hea...

Re: Dub production question

Dub production question

Hello chaps Not sure if anyone can help - can someone tell me what the technique used on dub records is that makes the bass kind of duck the rest of the track? I'm thinking of something like here - courtesy of the amazing Rhythm and Sound: http://open.spotify.com/track/7FIUIghcOQSEAKl7hG3C3Y It seem...

Re: Possible to go anywhere with no technical music knowledge?

. These days with computers and software the same can be said about most styles and genres I think. Someone might not be able to tell you the specific names of the chords they're programming, but they can "hear" them. Like I said though, it will always help. This Experience with music, ch...

Re: Possible to go anywhere with no technical music knowledge?

of course! it's all about intuition. and you either have that or you haven't. i think a lot of the best music has come from people with a lot of 'ideas' but without any traditional theory knowledge... having said taht i think technical knowledge (ie, production, rather than scales etc) is pretty man...

Re: krk rokit 6...any thoughts?

yamaha hs50ms are a good bet similar price range.... i think they are what i'm going to go for I've just got these babies, first monitors. I did quite a bit of comparison with the rokits, the latter certainly has a fuller low end but they sound so muddy compared with the yamahas. There is so much s...

Re: LOGIC?

yep with studio you get logic pro and loads of other useful bits

if you can afford it get studio

if you're a student you can get it ridiculously cheaply (like the price of express) if you get it via your uni, apparently

Re: Sub Bass

also i wonder how professional tracks have an audible ''sub'' on shitty speakers. it's not at all my aim to do music for laptop speakers. but it's such a big difference. but i guess that's in the end the mastering work It is down to layering. Try another waveform on top with some fx, try chorus, di...

Re: I think it's Mac time!

Well if this is true how comes I've seen at least 2 different crashes with people using Logic on the Computer Music videos yet I've never seen it in any of the vids happen with a PC? Dunno, I was talking more about the OSX rather than logic. I do get logic crashing now and then - probably less than...

Re: I think it's Mac time!

Ableton is great but I've found that at a certain point you hit a brick wall in terms of its DAW capabilities. It entirely depends on what kind of techniques you're using / want to use. My techno-head friend swears by Ableton as a sole DAW, but then again he is quite spartan in his setup: bass synth...
