that deep, hypnotic, timeless, heads-down/zone out material.

Hi guys, been out of the game for a while working for The Man and not buying enough vinyl. Maybe it's my age, but I can't work out where to start these days. I was wondering if any of you guys could offer some recommendations? I've been really feeling stuff on a more minimal tip this past year, tota...

Re: Burning in headphones?

When I got my ultrasones I put them in a draw and played pink noise through them whilst not in use. I recommend pink noise - just google it and set up a loop on iTunes or whatever ('pink noise loop' is now officially the mist played track in my library, but hey). An yeah, 1 hour's not enough, you ne...

Re: I have vinyl, what will I have in 10 years?

great topic. things are changing, the entire idea of 'owning' music is becoming obsolete in some ways - in a couple of years I reckon the predominant mode of listening will be streaming via spotify-like services direct to your phone/computer/whatever. ...which sucks, really. my personal favourite is...

Re: OSX Reverbs...

Thanks mate will check it out, wasn't aware of that one.

For anyone who's interested, I'm very encouraged by some preliminary testing on these impulses:

Some great stuff there!

Re: OSX Reverbs...

A few - not Cubase. Been using Ableton for a few years, and Logic Express, and currently experimenting with Reaper as it reminds me of the old Cubase days. Reaper's convolver plugin actually looks quite promising.

OSX Reverbs...

Hello all, In my 6 years since I was exiled from a PC and Cubase, I've yet to find a great (free/cheap) reverb plugin for Mac OSX. I used to use the SIR1 on PCwhich was great - I also had some fantastic impulses which I have somehow mislaid digitally in the interim. Anyone got any suggestions? I hav...

Re: New Burial out monday!! (807,000+ MostViewedTopicOnDSF)

I imagine in the near future he'll probably start doing live shows. He's gotten so big now that he will be able to get huge sums of money for playing live, probably at the big festivals. He could just do like Aphex Twin does and charge £20,000 per DJ set, playing a couple of times a year, or when h...

Four tet played it Friday night at plastic , definitely went off. He wheeled it back after it finished, and played the whole thing twice. It sounded more club-friendly production-wise than a lot of burial stuff.

Re: New Burial - Ego

Will be interesting to hear but to be fair the last burial/yorke thing (that remix) was the least interesting thing burial did at that time. Admittedly he was on fire, but still, not sure if they work so great together. And, to be honest, the yorke/fly track was a bit underwhelming too: yorkes got g...

Re: Blawan - Getting Me Down

one for the garage historians:

does anyone know any other famous tunes that use this brandy vocal? i know it's ubiquitous, but i heard an old two-steppy tune on a pirate yesterday with this and it was amazing. sounded a bit groove-chroniclesy..?

(sorry if I should know this already)

Re: those BoC and Tycho leads

And who was it that was saying it was sentimental for people born in the 80's? Sorry, wrong decade, it's the 70's little bro :D: i think it's quite fascinating how the 'nostalgia' ting people describe with boc is pretty regardless of when they were born, tho, without it being faked at all. i doubt ...

Re: Using tape as an effect

The other nice thing about reel to reels is that they almost invariably have separate record and read heads, which means that with some clever DAW routing you can feed them back and use them for real tape echo. You can do this with certain cassette recorders but they're in the minority; make sure y...
