Yeh it depends on how many channels your soundcard has. Take each instruments output up to the rewire top and plug in. ie: I've got 10 channels to use. These are then put to seperate tracks in cubase. But remember to turn on the channels in Cubase.

I've only recently got back into writing stuff. I've got a few hardware bitz and software as well as production tips to try and I'm finding that if I do a track I use it as a vehicle to try out a piece of gear or a particular technique. The trax are not great but another thing twigs. Ie: I might ...

More Questions! Physcho acoustics!

I'm enjoying reading and occasionally commenting on the more esoteric questions. Like why do people produce. Do people find that they never seem to finish much etc etc... One thing that I come across regular is happy accidents but more importantly the sum of parts. And I do on certain trax try to ...

Yeh every couple of months some kind of reorgansisation gets done. In a ideal world I'd stay on top but creativity gets in the way. A necessary evil I reckon. Otherwise I'd end up using the same stuff over an over. Clear some space for some new stuff. It'll do your soul good! 8)

As said, if your happy with the levels just take each individual track down by an even amount (3db for instance). The master needs to be at the 0db mark. This is to record the final mix using the full digital bit range available.

I've used cubase since v3 on the atari st. I've only recently started using reason. That said reason is great for getting ideas down quick but it's lack of audio input makes editing acapella's to a track for instance pretty convoluted. Especially without recycle. Running reason through rewire and ...

Hi

I had some serious latency issues in Cubase 4 a while back. After a lot of messing around I found that under device setup in the midi port setup page, make sure the use system timestamp for windows midi inputs is ticked. This solved all my problems. 8)

Hi,

Beyer DT100's were the standard in most studios for years. I use DT990's. £100ish. The only thing that becomes an issue monitoring on headphones is that after a few hours they start to hurt your head a bit. 8)

Cubase 4.5

Steinberg recently released a 4.5 update which adds Halion player and includes several patches for it as well as The VST Sound Collection Vol. I which offers almost 2 GB of new content, sounds and loops produced by top producers. Some pretty good bits and pieces. I doubt there will be a version 5 ...

What's the problem? If it's a kickin track then it don't matter. Most artists freely admit to using samples. Most of the music industry in fact. Being creative is what counts.

If your feeling guilty then chop the breaks up and get them in Redrum for some custom rolls and fills etc....... 8)

Hi People thought I'd throw my tuppence worth in.

Up until about 10 years ago the mainstay for a lot of studios (commercial and bedroom) was a pair of Yamaha NS10's or similar. Generically these speakers are called 'near field monitors'. ie: specifically designed for studio engineers and producers ...
