2.4 GHz and 4mb of cache.... not good. Thats 0.6 Ghz per core and 1mb of cache per core. No no no! a 2.4ghz quad core has 4 seperate cores at 2.4ghz each! Otherwise that would be a pretty shitty processor mate. I believe the 4mb is shared amongst the four cores, but as far as I know (and it depends...

Why so negative? Pets can totally influence your state of mind, having a living being around while you make music can be very inspiring.

Yeah, there's a wide range of opinions on this. The only reason I said that was because I wouldn't want a newcomer to production to get caught up in purchasing expensive gear from the get-go. If he likes it in a few months / years he can get crotchety and gear-addicted like the rest of us :D

Ah, does it not have some sort of software-only mode? Or work with other midi controllers than just its proprietary conectiv or xponent?

As far as I know you can only spin at 33 with Torq. Don't use it myself, but if you're used to 45s it could be a pain. Try the software through *ahem* alternate means (btjunkie), and if you like it see if you can give it a shot at a local music store to see if you like the feel of the vinyl control.

In the MIDI preferences of Live, make sure the "remote" box is on beside the CDJ400. That enables you to use it as an assignable midi controller.

Definitely excision. Got a sick and original bass sound.

I'd check out AC Slater too, does mostly electro but he did a dubstep remix of a B. Rich tune which is a real banger.

No doubt one of the best uses of Ableton is to mix it in as a third source (as well as a pair of tables) as it has the convenient pitch bend buttons which you can midi assign. If you got a controller set up with a slider to control the pitch and a pair of buttons for pitch bending, you got yourself ...

My first live set ever was done in Ableton, "DJing" as I called it at the time. I did at least trigger the clips through session view and rearranged tracks live, improvising the order. I think if you are playing out with Ableton this is the least you could do. Not because I'm hell-bent on ...

gameboy trackers are truly the hardcore portable music production tool. Plus, it looks so much more badass to have the big grey block and be making hardcore tunes on it. Don't sound nearly as good as the ds-10 though :(

no need for the hostility mate I changed the heading because it was inaccurate and didn't seem proper to the local DJs and promoters who had done such events in the past. If I had known of more local breakcore events I'd have been at every single one, but I am new to the Vancouver scene and did not....

Aah, was not aware of such a scene. Sad I missed it, was not around at the time.

Big ups to the Lighta crew as well, Bloodsound happening this month will have me on a full-on glitch overload.

Perhaps a misnomer, but this is the first time that I know of a party in Van that focuses entirely on breakcore. Events such as Bloodsound are still mostly based on dubstep and bass music. Has an all-breakcore show been thrown in the past here? The closest thing I know of was Venetian Snares. Caught...

The flyer has been changed due to a possible violation of forum rules. This event is not representative of a scene or this city in general, I don't know where you would get that from. This is very much an event that is trying to break out of the typical scene here, and I am sorry that you are offend...

Mmm... it's hard to describe really. Rusko uses bitcrusher a lot in his tunes, it just adds a nice bit of randomness that I totally dig. Try it and see if you like

Naw man, those things are pricey! Try ebay or craigslist, but then you don't know what quality you're getting really. Better yet, make your own! You can probably find the parts (mini-xlr jack, 1/8" jack, 10 foot 3-cable audio cord) at a local electronics shop.

That processor won't hold up long if you like to use Massive on several tracks. As well, having a pentium in a laptop is horrible for power consumption! Something with a core 2 duo is definitely worth the price.
