I love FL but the "live" mode is just some bolted on crap.

Don't bother with it, loads of better alternatives.

Re: reason & record

From what I know the educational version of most software is identical in every way apart from purchase price and upgrades.

The Reason forum is probably a better place for a definitive answer though, or maybe the FAQ over there.

Re: Waves Murcury Bundle

They're just EQ's and compressors etc. (with a few other basic types of effects)

What sort of tips do you want that don't apply to any other EQ's and compressors?

I think waves are a bit crap nowadays anyway, they just look hardcore because of the price tag, your wallet must be light :D

Re: MIDI KEYBOARDS???Drum Machines???

That's a fine choice.

The square buttons are velocity sensitive pads, so they respond differently according to how hard you hit them. You could assign drums in a sampler to be triggered from them for example.

Re: MIDI KEYBOARDS???Drum Machines???

Assigning different sounds to different keys is more to do with the software as most midi keyboards purely send midi messages to the PC. Using a soft sampler with a midi keyboard would be the best way to do this. Alternatively you could use a modular system to set up a midi splitter of some sort lik...

It'll take a while to get through it, a few days maybe, but afterwards you should be able to do pretty much whatever you want w/ Sytrus.
