I find the presets on Massive in particular are always too crazy to put into a track..you'll always end up taking out an oscillator or putting filters on it. Good starting point but often not terribly useful.

I'm sick of hearing Electro Bass or Draht Bass on tracks tho.

^ yeah, i'm reading the original post again and thinking tha he comes off as extremely close-minded... there's a world of recording and production outside of wobbles and sub drops.

Word. I think the electronic music community would be a better place if people embraced the world of analog ...

Tape Op is the best sound engineering magazine out there. It is not designed for people who make dubstep or electronic music..you're barking up the wrong tree. The magazine has a massive amount of good information despite what you may think.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm too in total agreeance with you and think it can be really frustrating when people just think that multiband compression is the answer. Is it almost never the answer and I think most people just need to really dig deeper into how compression, EQ and even simple level ...

A bus is a common electrical path which many signals can be combined into. A send sends your signal elsewhere and you control how much of the signal you want to send..you have no choice with the bus.

Another way that you could try would be to use sidechain compression. You could sidechain it into compressors on competing tracks. This can sometimes be a really interesting result along with some careful EQing.
