Re: Making Dubstep

Check out the Production Bible stickied at the top of this forum too, there's infinite wisdom to be found in there  The one tip that I would give you that helped me so much when I first got my DAW, is don't be scared to fuck up. Just play, play, play, it doesn't matter if it sounds like the bi...

Re: I know nothing about music theory..

I come from a classically trained background, and honestly, sometimes I wish I didn't. Nothing beats just sitting down and playing and just seeing what works, screw rules, if it sounds good to you, then that's all that matters. Of course it comes in useful sometimes when composing a track, but most ...

Re: Turntables, Serato and such

I've never tried Serrato or Traktor, but I've been DJing with Connectiv's Torq for over a year now and I've never had it crash or spaz out... I even run it on a netbook. I've met some people who are pretty snobbish and as far as they're concerned, if you're not using Serrato then you're noone, but t...

Nowadays dubstep seems to be defined by a wobbly bassline, but I was interested how it came about, Burial and Rusko seem like worlds apart.

It probably is the wrong forum to ask in, but it's the forum that I will get the most knowledgeable answers from ;)

Wobblez!

So today I was listening to a load of old skool dubstep from the likes of Kode 9, Distance, and Burial (I'm sure someone will tell me that that isn't old skool, but whatever) and I was just wondering who first introduced the 'wobble' bass effect into dubstep? Or for that matter, the brutal electro p...

I started off too with a pair of cheap direct drive turntables and managed to recently get myself a pair of second hand 1210s off ebay for £300. This is going to sound strange, but I wouldn't have done it any other way for learning. I thought my old tables were sweet until I started playing on 1200s...

When I got into DJing 10 years ago I couldn't afford decent decks, so I picked up a pair of second hand direct drive soundlabs. I thought that they were awesome until I had a play on some 1210's, and they weren't even on the same level. I find that cheaper decks tend not to hold the tempo steady mak...

True silence is in a vacum As long as there's air - theres a good chance of sound. I wonder what yould happen if you were in a vacuum, you wouldn't be able to hear your blood pumping and it would be interesting to find out if your mind really did start to make up noise... although if you were in a ...

Thank You

Hi guys, I've been reading this forum for a while now, but only recently had the cash to put down to get some gear and get into production. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has put in a lot of time and effort writing guides and answering questions, because it has helped me - and no doubt ...
