Re: drums or bass?

Doesnt matter.

Sometimes make beats for a bass, sometimes make bass to match beats. Whichever is more crucial to the sound of your track, make stuff work with it. Sometimes however it is easier to come up with a bassline when there is a beat.

Re: Where to learn basics about effects, etc?

It was a few years ago now, but i'm pretty sure thats what I was taught when studying Sound Production. An effect, or should i say 'effects', is something that is added, giving you two signals, dry and wet. Where as processing just changes the signal. Like as mentioned above, maybe the emphasis is m...

So unless you're in a fancy studio with damping and a high polygon count, or have really good headphones, youre doomed?!

Adjusting levels at the limits of your hearing

Do any of you ever do this? Or have tried it? It seems to give a really nice balance. I tried it by setting the kick level as normal, then lowered the monitors till I could BARELY hear the kick. Then I started bring in the other elements until I could only just hear them. The result was a nicer bala...

Re: Making the beat in your head

Kind of, I usually get an idea in my head, but most of the time I forget about it before I can make it for real. And I usually never stick to the orginial idea of a track anyway. I remember Roni Size saying he used to always carry around a recorder with him, so he could hum basslines or beatbox int...

Re: Making the beat in your head

What I find the most infuriating is when I think I have this AWESOME 140 beat but in reality its a completely different BPM and after ive mapped it down the amazing idea isn't amazing anymore; its some shite track at 123 BPM not even people on K would like. I'm a firm believer in that the best crea...

Re: Learning synthesis

I dunno a particular source but.... some of it is basic physics of sound, some of it is understanding the intricacies of the synth you are using, and most of it is knowing through experience what certain shit does or sounds like. Its like making a salad dressing, you can follow a recipe exactly like...

Anyone here have much experience with Razor? I would like to try something new and exciting :) Massive is the only synth i've really been able to get my head around(and not just slightly through or from the side).

Re: Making the beat in your head

I tap beats with my hands and fingers before replicating them by programming them in.
