How much does everyone stick with one pattern when they write a tune? Maybe not the whole shabang but at least the kick/snare or loose percussion parts stay the same throughout a whole track? Parallel compression on your real snare sound, some nice finger-click/wood-hit sounds with a bit of verb goes nicely, I never find I need to add that xKHz on top after that.
