Re: Need a new laptop
I just picked up a Dell Inspiron i7 2.4ghz, turboboost to 3.0ghz, full hd 108p 17", 8gb Kingston HyperX memory, 1tb 10000rpm HDD for 600 quid refurbed. I'm running Cubase 5 rewiring ableton with a shedload of vst instruments and plugins. It Barely scrapes the CPU or asio. Highly recommended.

Re: Cracked software = cracked sound
gotta love the cubase hate. been using it for 10 years, starting off at college. On to version 5 now, cracked, and i've never had a buggy project. Or a crash. Yeh SX3 was wank and i lost more projects than i completed even on a bought version, still managed to get an EP released though. Tried Live, ...

it's a bitch to use...but a satisfying bitch when you crack it :6: it's not really any different to most other synths tho...what trouble are you having? just after making some oscilator layers, after running them through a filter, i just cant get any interesting sounds. To be honest i think it migh...

Re: Hooking up RP8's?
it's definitely worth using balanced, shielded cables wherever possible. my rp8's went through of phase of terrible electrical interference due to have to use unbalanced RCA's to hook em up. Balanced Jacks or XLRs all the way!!

Re: Improving Drum Beats?
+1 everything above.... Also, as a drummer of 10+ years....don't forget to use your triplet and dotted notes to accent grooves and add a more human feel. Kick on 1 and Snare on 3 indeed, but it's what you do between that defines the beat. Not sure if anyone is familiar with the concept of ghost note...

Re: List Of Members Collaboration // Collabs Thread
What DAW do you use? Cubase 5 though i've got SX3 kicking around for back compatibility. How long have you been producing for? Since I first got my humble copy of Acid Pro at the age of 14....so 8 years. What VSTs do you favour? For synths: About 15 instances of Z3TA. Though I do have Kontakt, Mass...

Re: Help me, I need new monitors
yeh i agree, they go down to 50hz i think....not ideal but at least you get the all important 60 hz....and for 250 quid new you cant go wrong...as long as you've got a spectral analyser handy =]

Re: apparently my wobbles aint intersting enough :/
guys, i wasnt saying resampling is the be all and end all of making basslines. i only recently started using it myself, and my first release hasnt got a touch of resampling in it all. I was simply suggesting one way of achieving interesting movement in basslines through re sampling. And when i say r...

Re: Help me, I need new monitors
cant go wrong with KRK rp8s imo. Or if you're on a budget or work in a small space, rp5s will do you. Only a 5" cone but i was thoroughly impressed with my mates pair, they almost keep up with my rp8s. almost.

Re: The Big z3ta Thread
z3ta's multi sync/free oscillator option is great too. it turns a single oscillator into 8. meaning you can have 6 x 8!! it rapes your cpu, but if you finding your pads are lacking depth then utilising that along with simple slow, low range lfo modulation as well as reverb, stereo chorus etc will ge...

Re: apparently my wobbles aint intersting enough :/
oh and experiment with the phase of your LFO, if possible. Changing phase even a tiny bit can solve the problem of getting that wobble to sit well within your intended phrase/bar.
and i cant spell!

Re: apparently my wobbles aint intersting enough :/
Oi Oi, i too struggle with the wobble interesting dilemma. Managed to crack alot of it recently though through resampling. Initially though, i've found that getting one bassline to provide all the interest just impossible. Dont mean to be patronising and i know it's a rule of thumb but make a shit l...

@limenode: Great mixdown on your stuff mate. content wise really not my kind of dubstep, the movement of the basslines doesnt seem to flow always but sounds like a good amount of thought has gone in to processing your basslines :W: and it's haaaard to get that shit sorted @budspencertron: listened t...
