Frenetic Friday -- WRIR 97.3 FM (Richmond,VA USA)

Hello everybody.
Use to frequent the forum a while back, seems that they switched a few things...

Anyway, I have a radio show in Richmond, and I play a lot of leftfield/"post"/"bass music" stuff that you're probably familiar with. I'm also starting to incorporate local electronic musicians into my ...

Tokimonsta - Midnight Menu LP

So...apparently Tokimonsta's new LP has dropped. But it seems she didn't tell anybody. Brainfeeder doesn't even have it listed on their site or anything....I'm confused. :o

This site has two preview track up, and they sound quite nice. It's on iTunes, but not on Boomkat. Huh.

Flying Lotus Cosmogramma in FULL on MySpace

Surprised there wasn't a post about it yet....it's going to take some time to settle in, but this album is very, very, VERY good. Easy contender for Album of the Year, maybe Top 10 of decade...and I'm saying that with as little hyperbole as possible.

De De Mouse - My Favorite Swing (Hudson Mo Remix)

Not sure how long it has been up on his Myspace, but I just heard it a couple of days ago... :o

This post says that the remix will be released on April 7th, along with De De Mouse's new album.

Shafiq - Shafiq En' A-Free-Ka

Thoughts? I just found out this guy had a solo record out. Reminds me of that new Sa-Ra record, except it's more focused.

Pretty much anything these guys put out seems to be awesome, IMHO.

Re: British hip hop from an American's perspective

the clipse and the cool kids?

not saying they're garbage but really?

I can honestly say that they're MC's that definitely work on their rhymes -- or, at the very least, think about what they're saying before they say it. There were probably a bunch of other rappers I forgot to mention (Stones ...

Re: British hip hop from an American's perspective

Perhaps... but if you knew anything about hiphop, you'd know its never been about the mainstream. Yeah, it might be easy to say "Souljah Boy sucks"... but you would have to get in line behind Ice-T, Method Man, Snoop, and the countless other legends who have dismissed that little shit. If you are ...

End of 2009 Thread (AKA 2 More Months till end of decade!)

So, peoples...I think it's been quite an exciting year. And for me, it's pretty much been all about Hyperdub. Outside of that, there are way too many artists to list that are making some really good stuff.

What's everyone looking forward to next year?

-New FlyLo (?)

-Ikonika

-Rustie

-King Midas ...

Re: British hip hop from an American's perspective

I've never really thought most (good) Grime or British MC's ever sounded all that bad. Once you listen to enough of it, you can start to understand what the slang means and how it's used.

American MC's, on the other hand....90% of them are absolute rubbish. IMHO, MF Doom, Clipse and The Cool Kids ...

FlyamSam - Green Tea Power

One of my favorite tracks of the year, even though it's been around for a few years. Plus, someone matched it to a Looney Tunes cartoon, which helps.

So, Hyperdub 5....

Has the ugliest cover art ever known to man.

I mean, didn't anyone think when they first saw this that it was a half-loaded image? Like back in the 56k days?

Anyways, tunes are awesome, as always. but that cover....

Best Albums of 2009?

Right now, I can say that really like that Nosaj Thing full-length, though I need a few more spins to get into it...Hud Mo's debut is going to rule, most likely...but other than that, I'm drawing blanks. Who else made a great full-length, or is going to release one later this year?
