Re: PUT YOUR WORKS-IN-PROGRESS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.

Sorry, this isn't really dubstep but if you're into the grittier more electro type of Dubstep you might like this.

http://www.fileden.com/getfile.php?file_path=http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/1/25/2285061/Sinekawea.mp3 Got tired of all the super-wonky wobblefests and wanted to write something clean, laid back without overusing atmospheric and while I usually have problem doing that because I think the tracks g...

Re: Compressing a kick?

There are plenty of multiband processors in general, but I usually want 100% control so I just eq a duplicate and compress that. However, if you're doing this, make sure that your original is bounced down because plug-in delay compensation isn't always reliable! It doesn't squeeze the kick together,...

Re: any tips on the auto filter in logic?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Auto filter, the resonance is really beautiful to me and it's easy to modulate - But have you tried the Delay Designer? If you're doing anything that's dub + techno it should be your holy grail. It's basically a delay with a sequencer that you can utilize to sequence f...

Re: Emulations of lesser known vintage synths

Ooh there's a bunch, you've got the Oscar, which is emulated in an awesome fashion by GForce in form of ImpOscar.. And finally we have a great VCS 3 emulation by XILS, it's super yummy but kinda pricey.. The Oddity might be worth mentioning too, also by Gforce - which is of course emulating the Arp ...

Re: atmospherics...

Atmospherics can be anything! Learn how to use an audio editor. Got a few dvds laying around the house? Sample atmospherics, pitch them down, reverse them, edit them and layer them together with tonal sounds from plugins (with a slow attack envelope)! A main thing to keep in mind if you don't want y...

Re: Mac Questions

Stuffit expander FTW. App zapper is necessary to actually get rid of everything (there's always bull shit left over). My mac formatted external HD doesn't work to PC, however apparently if you format it for PC first it will work with both. Haven't tried yet though. Omni disk sweeper is good for cle...

Re: which vsti has sicker bass sounds for dubstep?

Synthesizers don't have sounds, they are tools to make your own sound.

Now, if you talked about sound modules, my vote would go for the JV-2080, those sounds are still very usable for electronic dub, jazz and reggae!

Re: APC as drum pad? / latency issue

Well, unless something is very, very wrong the latency is not up to your controller, but rather your audio interface.

Tweak your buffer settings or buy a new interface, the APC is not to blame.

Re: Mac Questions

- How does one install/uninstall things on Macs? Sadly, it's still the "drag it to the trash" thing since alot of applications are self-contained, but if you can spend a few bucks you should definently get AppZapper, it's an excellent third-party application that takes care of that. - If I...

Re: Weird equipment

The Wii Remotes are being used as Midi Controllers (that are SO suitable for dubstep because you can map out different motions to different parameters very meticulously and do all your wobbling manually in real-time), the DS runs some awesome homebrew music software and the NES as you can see is run...

Weird equipment?! I LOVE WEIRD EQUIPMENT. Re: Share all your audio quality tips here!

If you're using ALOT of processing on certain main elements, bounce those tracks down and work the mix around them - that way you won't fall in the "HOW THE HELL CAN THIS MIX BE SUCH A SWAMPY HELLHOLE WHEN IT'S ONLY 6 TRACKS?"-pit and you won't randomly delete plug-ins and lose your sound....

Re: What reverb do you like to use?

There's many, many good ones and just recently there's been an influx of plug-ins who've all flexing a quality that has never before been seen in algorithmic software! Redline Reverb is probably going to be a smash, it's fantastic. As far as algorithmic stuff goes I just use whatever fits, but when ...

Re: PSP Nitro

The fact that you can play around with phasing so easily is VERY underrated. Put it on a bus where you have all the percussive stuff that isn't your main kicks and snares and watch your mix get very multi-dimensional while still not fucking up the stereo spectrum too much!

Re: heavy kicks,claps and snares?

Heavy stuff? You'd be amazed how important the processing is for that. Use a standard synthetic kick and a fat acoustic one, bounce them together, add a static filter, roll off some highs and up the resonance a bit (for some cutting frequencies), put it through a distortion plug and add a short but ...

Re: Making tinny, metallic bass

A good way is to use two oscillators with the first being a saw tuned down an octave and then the second one being a digital, wavetable one on +3 octaves or something, when they're played together they're clashing because they're both very extreme sounds and then you get a tinny, metallic feel to do...
