Re: Why so many tracks made at 140 and pitched up?
I feel a bit embaressed to admit that I never knew about the 0 pitch issue with technics (which I've now had for about 5 years...) and perhaps this irrelevant, but I rip all my vinyl to play on my ipod - should I be ripping them at +2 instead of 0, or is this only an issue when mixing?

Re: lazer bass?
not to speak for slug in any way whatsoever, but he will tell you "i use FL4 only." and that sound in the video is basically a saw and square, + distortion, and slight envelope modulation on the pitch of the osc's... the key is using your pitch wheel or assigning the mod wheel to pitch an...

Producing for playing live
I have a few questions for those of you who play live. Not DJing, but live song production ala FlyLo, Dabrye, erm Tim Exile... Basically taking a laptop/drumpad/midi controllers etc. on stage and bashing buttons. Probably more a 'glitch hop' type ting than dubstep, but anyway: Are you conscious of t...

Re: Track Layout Rules
Something I found useful was loading up a few of my favourite tunes in my DAW and analyzing them as they played, dropping in markers (called locators in Ableton) at the drops, breaks and other key structure changes. Then deleting the reference tune and structure my own tune around the markers. Helps...

Re: Excision and Datsik recycling material?
Lots of guitar bands use the same "patch" in all their songs... it's the writing that counts, not just the production. I was just gonna say that! It's something I've always been amazed at - the depth and variation of sound you can get from the same 3 instruments. I was gonna use that avat...

Marker pen straight on the labels. Think I mispelt one, and mislabelled another though.

Re: How much do you bitcrush??
Whatever sounds good.
Been using bitcrush on a send a lot at the moment. You can crank the effect right up to max, but only send a subtle amount from tracks that only need a little dirt.

Re: Ableton Audio Resampling
Have you got any effects on return tracks? If so make sure the input for the resampling track is set to Master, not the drum track. Only thing I can think of.

PROPER HEAVY NIGHT!!!
Big-ups 16bit, you fucking smashed it!
Can't believe there was a mosh-pit to dubstep. Can't believe I lost my phone on the dancefloor, TWICE and found it twice. Can't believe you beat me to this thread Si. Can't believe I'm still recovering! Getting old...

I think if you set the attack value to be just barely off you can remove the click without depriving the bass of its weight one of the first things i learned about production was that you actually want that click there, aslong as its not rediculously loud. gives the kick a touch more bite Personall...
