Re: Production name search/ownership/legality
Legally speaking, how entitled to my name am I if it's my last name backwards? Doesn't really make a difference where the name comes from. It's how it's used and in what industry. Someone else could start using a brand that resembles or matches your name and it would be perfectly fine unless ...

Re: Production name search/ownership/legality
An artist name cannot be copyrighted. It's a trademark, that identifies goods/services you provide. Unless you really stand to profit from your work as X artist, there's almost no point in spending the money to register the trademark. And if you're worried about being confused with another artist, j...

Re: Making an album
It IS a difficult thing man, and artists and labels all have different approaches. Some artists might say I'm gonna write a bunch of tracks around a theme tying together a particular set of methods, sounds or styles. And the appearance of cohesion might just result from the tracks being written with...

Re: Patch Bay has confused the life out of me again!
Cable from bottom line back goes to mpc input. Top line back should have cable coming from output of whatever gear you most often sample from. Then assuming you have other gear outputs going into top line back (different columns) you can then use a patch cable in front to go from any top jack front ...

Re: hardware used in early garage production?
@elkie - i don't think this information is useless at all. It's actually one of the more interesting topics i've seen personally. Listening to jungle for instance, and thinking about the tools they used and were restricted by, gives me goosebumps. And Chicago house, for that matter...Why anyone woul...

Re: hardware used in early garage production?
i have a couple of those JV's sitting around got em at a yard sale. Awesome drum sounds in them. post a sample pack if i can ever be arsed to get 'em out Out of interest, can you listen to late 90's house and garage tunes and reel off the presets they're using? Yep. Piano: Korg M1 - Piano 16 Organ:...

I use the S3000xl and 1080 almost daily. The orchestral expansion card is killer.

I played my ibanez les paul copy in my sig track
have a few pedals, and some homemade ones, including a Neovibe and Echo Base (analog-like delay).
I usually record without an amp, and direct into my mixer--> then soundcard

Re: For Those of You With Label Releases
Most blogs are irrelevant because very few people read them. But you also need to treat them respect, like the press. Don't send stuff to blogs if you aren't braced for a negative review. Bloggers want to discover stuff and bring them to the public. Better ones also want to convey objectivity. If yo...

Re: For Those of You With Label Releases
as Basic alludes to, this nexus betw djs and labels and promo shouldn't be overlooked. The OP makes it sound like it's a choice betw one or the other. Labels and DJ's watch each other, and what the other is watching. A realistic goal might be to become the third corner of that triangle. If anything,...

Re: For Those of You With Label Releases
one way to look at it: if u wanna be on a label, aim as high as possible: comes with- - bigger, more diverse, fan base - more well-known dj's receiving its promos - less self-promotion required - instant credibility (to certain folks who wouldn't otherwise listen) obviously, as you inch down the spe...

Re: So many volume faders - recording hardware synths
Agree with Contakt. I start with the loudest/useable signal from the synth. Then use my rack mixer to bring the level down to the point that it shows up in my DAW as somewhere around -18db. Leaving track and master faders at 0db. Typically try to avoid increasing the level once it leaves the synth. ...

Re: How to know when youre ready/getting your stuff out ther
My two cents: If you are proud of a few tracks, then you are halfway there. Make some more tracks. And then some more. Find some way to let a few others hear them. And be open to feedback, especially about the mix, realizing that an objectively compelling song can trump any technical deficiencies. A...

Re: Heres something ive always excited about..
re-amping and using guitar pedals as send effects is a great way to add some sonic originality. once ran a vocal out to a Boss delay pedal as a send, and swear it sounded better than my Cubase reverb. though some might say it's because it's 16bit after all. in my sig tune, i'm playing guitar through...

jaded or not, know what you want and what they are saying, and ask for it in writing. if they refuse, be clearheaded enough to walk away. it's just self-respect.
and don't send anything to them unless you're 100% sure about them. trust your gut.

Seriously, i checked your two tracks on SC. you've got an interesting sound there. i'm the last person to judge what's dubstep or isn't. but just keep doing your own thing and do it well.
