Re: Battle Los Angeles

Yeah, it's shit. Great trailer that cleverly doesn't show any acting or story. Good visuals and sound, EVERYTHING else is garbage. Just go watch District 9 again instead.

a more sensible comparison to make would be countries of equal economic status as the USA, such as western european nations like Germany, France, UK
Wrong already. West european countries are among the best for economic equality. The united states is no where close.

Re: Arizona Congresswoman shot in Tuscon

We all saw this map of homicides per capita here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Homicide-world.png Which looks almost exactly the same as this map showing economic inequality http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gini_Coefficient_World_CIA_Report_2009.svg What are we trying to get rid of, guns or mur...

Re: Arizona Congresswoman shot in Tuscon

Giving extremely harsh sentences to people caught with illegal firearms sounds like a step in the right direction. Remember, there is one legally owned gun per person in the US and these weapons aren't the problem. The problem is the unregistered guns and severe penalties for getting caught with one...

Re: Arizona Congresswoman shot in Tuscon

Yes it does create an arms race, I agree with that. Problem is, legal or not, the average criminal could easily get a gun here. Take the guns from the police and the legal owners and that leaves the criminals armed.

Re: Arizona Congresswoman shot in Tuscon

I agree that because there are guns in the country there will be gun crime. The real problem is that they have been here for centuries so they aren't going anywhere. Banning them will make it worse. A quick google search tells me that 1 in 4 americans owns a gun and on average each gun owner has 4 o...

Re: Arizona Congresswoman shot in Tuscon

In my state it is illegal to sell, deliver, or transfer any firearm to: * A minor under the age of 18. * A convicted felon, who has not had his civil rights restored. * A person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor involving violence or found guilty, except for insanity, within the previous four ...

Re: good horror flicks

Do you want slasher cheese? If so Piranha from last year was AWESOME. Not scary at all but a whole lotta fun. If you want something more serious I could think of others.

Re: Film of the Year

Enter the Void for me had spotty acting, average story and was no better than 7/10 overall. With that said, I was totally captivated and it stayed with me for weeks which is something movies just don't do anymore. The fact that I loved it but haven't recommended it to anyone says a lot about it.

Did anyone else LOL at the family in Dogtooth? I don't think it was supposed to be funny at all.

Re: Black Swan

Knell, The camera work in combination with the entire cast of unlikeable characters was supposed to make you uneasy. Not only was it all intentional but critical in giving the movie it's feel. A horror film is always going to try to scare the audience however some people don't like being scared. I f...

Re: Film of the Year

I agree, Enter the Void was great. Somehow I forgot about it.

I watched Paprika just before I watched Inception and I didn't care for it at all. So I watched it again later and I still feel the same.

Re: Film of the Year

Cyrus was good. Of the movies that I saw this year I'd say,

1) Black Swan
2) The Secret in their Eyes
3) Inception
4) True Grit
5) Winter's Bone
6) Mother
7) Scott Pilgram
8) Machete
9) Social Network
10) Toy Story 3

Not the best just my favorites
