I know this is like some kid talking about his toy car to a ferrari driver, but arturia's arp emulation sounds really good, if anyone is into that sort of thing. I'm absolutely positive the real deal pisses all over it, but it does sound very good for a vst.

Re: sexy ass synth!!!
Yeah it's kind of nuts.
To be honest I'm ALMOST happy I don't own all of these, exactly for that reason of having to "live up" to how much your gear is worth or whatever the fuck.
A lot of these are harder to use than I expected. Electronic music definitely has come a long way as far as user ...

Yo guys I'll be playing a few shows in Europe
Yep.
Tomorrow playing a lil Off-Sonar early afternoon get-together at Discos Paradiso which is at 39, Ferlandina.
that's from 12 to 1:30.
Then got some parties happening in Glasgow, Bern, Berlin, Hamburg and finally LowRiders in Rotterdam.

Re: Producing for playing live
on the real though, producing for live and using a laptop:
keep your parts for the live set simple so you can manipulate and adventure in what you have.
a super simple pad type controller (like the trigger finger or MPD stuff) is great, and try to put a Pioneer DJM-800 on your technical rider and ...

that's why my modular is a roadcase!

I'm going to start leaving the MS-20 at home though, that thing is big and hard to bring out.

Re: synthesizer shopping, what do you recommend?
Mopho sounds great
pros:
TINY!
analog
midi
you can do in-depth editing on your computer
cheap!
cons:
only four knobs so for hands-on and live it's tight, but for in depth sound-design, you'll be at your computer, which you might not want.
ugly as sin.

Re: Producing for playing live
yeh exactly,
I guess that's what I was getting at when saying live set vs. laptop kareoke.
cause don't get me wrong, I was playing a laptop-only live set for about 3 years before kind of wanting to do something else.
and yeah, I don't think hardware is any better (however that shit BANGS in the ...

Re: Producing for playing live
Live electronic music doesn't have to be laptop kareoke
just cos you got lots of hardware synths doesn't necessarily make you better than someone just using a laptop and ableton. calling it laptop karaoke is pretty wrong i reckon and ignores the amount of work and effort that can go into a set ...

Re: Producing for playing live
I try to consider my recorded output and live output as two seperate entities.
I export loops from the drums and maybe a few of the extra sounds and synth things going on, then export some midi loops from the main lines.
bases of songs are sent via midi from ableton to a Korg MS-20 and a TB-303 ...

Re: synthesizer shopping, what do you recommend?
When you have found the synth with the sound you like, it wont be the next best VST in your folder of 50 different synths, but instead it will be something personal.
Also true. They might be electronic instruments, but they are still instruments. Like an aging pathetic middle aged rocker with his ...

Re: synthesizer shopping, what do you recommend?
it goes both ways.
I use hardware because I don't like screens and I really enjoy dedicated knobs and stuff.
I only buy analog cause.. well... I'm not sure really.
that said I know of some VSTs that sound better than a lot of the junk synths being made today. (like that Roland Gaia.) Although there ...

Re: synthesizer shopping, what do you recommend?
Don't get a DX-7.
It's huge, practically impossible to program (+ you have to do it all from one slider at the front... and we're not talking subtractive synthesis here... this is a FM synth guys. algorythms.).
I sold mine and got a Juno-60. It's lush, the analog filters make the DCO's amazing, etc ...

Ey,
Here's my contribution to this great thread:
picked up a few acid records I had kicking around and recorded a somewhat sloppy 40 minute mix tonight.
noticed a lot of these have been mentioned already
my mixer kind of crapped out during the Robert Owens track... and a few other moments... not ...

Re: slow mo techno
I recorded it to tape cassette a week ago and there was unbearable surface noise over the whole thing and it made me upset.
Hopefully I'll have time to do it into 1s and 0s this weekend.
