Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@ Jaydot. Your bass is distorting (in a bad way). That is all.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Well, I said I'd be back and here I am (looking spiffy too!). @rightontime The first 3/4 of your song need snappy / punchier snares. They sound a bit weak. Also, maybe the lead synth could come down a db or a 2? The last 1/4 of the song sounds legit. @broxamson I like the general idea of it. The exe...

Let me know what you guys think. Good idea? Bad idea? Take the bass out? Sorry the bass seems a tad loud.

Re: Who for you is smashing it right now?
I forgot, this is dubstep forum. I need to add a hater post (I kid!! I kid! ... sort of). Not feelin' Borgore/Datsik/Excision/Cookie Monsta/etc. I'll be honest I really think Datsik's older stuff is good, especially the track Apples. However, it's too much of the same at this point. Starting to remi...

Re: Who for you is smashing it right now?
Easy. Hot Flush. Scuba, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Untold, LV (his forthcoming single - Boomslang is sick!!!!), Flying Lotus (his new ep is killer, obviously), Breakage (New single!! - Justified - amazzzinnngg - breakage dominates the sub 50hz spectrum), Sepalcure, Pariah, Sigha, Eskmo (san francisc...

Re: The 'help me make this sound!' thread
Hey, I would love a few pointers on this sound I'm trying to emulate (for learning purposes). It's this big white-noise+synth pad sound. It's present in a number of james blake / mount kimbie / flying lotus (especially fly lo) tracks. Here is an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hQ7ZrF_cUY Th...

Re: Chopping vocals - Mount Kimbie + Burial
I'm running Ableton 8 and Pro Tools 7.4. Aside from running it in my DAW, which I have yet to look up how to do, what do you think is the best standalone for the job. Better yet, if you had Ableton 8 and Pro Tools 7.4 how would you go about chopping vocals?

Re: studio recorded drum corps/cadences?
Yeah, they do sell them. In fact, I might have some copies of the free promo they (USC) recorded. I'm going out for a bit, but if I can dig 'em up, I'll post them here.

Chopping vocals - Mount Kimbie + Burial
Hey, so I was curious as to how Mount Kimbie and Burial chop and process (mostly how they pitch) their vocals. If you might know what programs / plugins / processes they use that'd be awesome. Here are two different examples. Mount Kimbie (vocals at 2:40) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ7AF8IG7Eg B...

Re: studio recorded drum corps/cadences?
Look for school recordings. I know the USC (University of Southern California) records their drumline cadences. It's quite well done really.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@wabble It's almost bedtime for me so I'm going to make this short, I hope I don't come off as rude just want to be productive. The lead "wobble" synth has too much reverb on it, it's sitting way to far back in the mix and needs to come up front as a lead synth should. Also, I think the wh...

Hey, please please please check out my tune, been producing properly for about 4-5 Months, would appreciated Feedback Hey, a couple things: 1. You generally want to leave feedback on other tracks when you put up one of your own for feedback. Especially if, like me, you haven't posted a terrible amo...

@Paulo
That lead melody line sounds really good man. I would maybe add some more effects/stuff here and there to keep it fresh.
I made some edits and added a vocal sample to my track. Let me know what you guys think.

Sampling movies...
What's the best way to sample audio from a movie? Fyi, I am running Ableton Live 8 and Pro Tools 7.4. Also what should I do about the resampling (since the movie audio is 44.8khz)?
Sorry if this has already been asked somewhere...
Thanks!

Re: Breakdowns, do we NEED to have them?
My thoughts on the subject: Nothing is necessary. However, breakdowns are good in the proper context. It's a nice smooth way to finish off a track. Though tracks can be finished in a variety of different ways. When making music I think it's best to not think about the DJ that is going to spin the tr...

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@xhiler8d I think the intro to your tune (the part with the dubby, syncopated synth) is the best part. In my opinion you should elaborate on that idea as opposed to breaking out the "jump-up dubstep" synths. However, it should be noted that I'm pretty partial towards songs without those he...
