I think it could be done really well, but it would take a certain kind of talent and natural innovation to pull it off and not just be 'jazzy' but effectivley an electronic/jazz/dubstep fusion; I dont think jazz works when its sampled out of context so it would have to be an instrumentalist recordin...

btw, for things like compression, it's best to fuck about and learn what works on different kinds of elements. what i usually do tho is turn up my subbass so it's just under clipping, watch the meters, find a very high threshold like -2 or -3 and then put the ratio very low, 2.5:1 to 4:1. Then go f...

I would probably just figure the melody out for the bassline and layer a sub underneath with a synth perhaps.

Re: dubstep drum patterns

it's simple: bpm = 133 to 145. time sig = 6 bars of 7/8 followed by 2 in 11/8 or, sometimes, 6 bars of 9/8, one of 5/8. snare should follow bassdrum after 5 or 12 16ths, with hihats in between in symmetrical speed ramps, like: x.. . . . i . . . ..x shakers/tambs should NEVER land on the same beat a...

hardly ever do anything apart from drink nowadays and if I do do any thing Ill do pretty moderate amounts, but who cares if people are really, as long as their enjoying themsleves, not causing shit and not being too blatent giving the venue/organizers a bad rep etc. it doesn't matter.
