Re: Oi! Solar Mixtape Contest

you're totally welcome. Usually I can't get through most mixes/podcasts I hear without skipping ahead b/c shit gets boring, but throughout this mix I didn't feel like that at all. In fact, the whole mix basically got played without interruption (with the exception of a couple rewinds when the drop w...

Re: 140 Minute Mix of Dubstep Classics

u may be on to something. i checked back on a bunch of archived rinse sets and it seems like everyone drops 'haunted' in a weird place. the only example i could find of a drop that sounded correct was in a kode9 b2b loefah set from 2005 (granted i only checked a couple of sets that i had). which is ...

Re: Oi! Solar Mixtape Contest

AHH :h: this mix was great! there were some tunes that i thought were whack like the 'cranberry goose' and tmsv tune, but you totally made them work when the next tune would come in! obviously some things make more sense after the fact. that slamming technique that you do with 'don't change for me' ...

Re: 140 Minute Mix of Dubstep Classics

hmm...if haunted or fear drift in pitch/speed, then you may want to check your sourcing. you´d have to be cautious as to whether it´s a vinyl rip or something that was actually released digitally. and then, keep it hush-hush or the Furies will begin to chime in...

Re: 140 Minute Mix of Dubstep Classics

made it through the whole thing! it was a 'lil too long for my attention span, dunno if others feel differently. here's a couple things i noticed: eqing - i think you need be more extra aware of eqing tunes when the incoming or outgoing tune has vocals in it. i thought that the jah war blend as well...

Re: Falty dl's 'You Stand Uncertain' Appreciation

can we change this thread to a general FaltyDL Appreciation thread? I think that majority of his discography deserves appreciation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNk9qajxZjw I remember hearing this tune for the first time on one of Oneman's sets a while back. Can't remember if he mixed it into or o...

Re: I need a reference point. What constitutes a good mix?

Also what did you mean by "I didn't think about it before, but that makes the LA-brainfeeder preference for Ableton alot more sensical." this was in reference to: The music the op listens too is actually quite alot harder to mix then most dubstep. The breaks tend to still shout out crazy when mixin...

Here's the Kode9 mix. It used to be hosted on Barefiles, which was a dubstep mix database that seems to now be defunct. Re: I need a reference point. What constitutes a good mix?

Thanks Tosker for the great reply. I needed to hear this from another person because I thought I was losing my mind. I do agree with you that mixes #1 and 2, and parts of 3 all are very LINEAR (a great way to describe the mixing techniques). My questions is though, can these people, in the context ...

Re: I need a reference point. What constitutes a good mix?

i forgot to mention that you're gonna have to take into account the difference in playback systems.

TTs, serato, cdjs, ableton, etc. all have their idiosyncracies (as well as baggage).

Re: I need a reference point. What constitutes a good mix?

i think that the question is a 'lil vague, which could help debate and/or hinder it, depending on what answer you're looking for. IMO, those mixes are pretty awful, half b/c i think that the mixing is really linear and half b/c i think that the music is really, really terrible. But that's not really...
