Re: getting a new computer
You might want to wait until next month - the next generation of Intel CPUs is about to be released. http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/new-macbook-pro-laptops-with-intel-haswell-processors-tipped-for-wwdc-launch-1147522 Yeah they'll be a lot faster than a 4 year old laptop, should be fin...

Re: Worth Picking up Cubase 7?
I think Cubase is great, it was the first DAW I learnt and i didn't find it hard. Although it takes a while to master everything it can do, which is a lot!
I'm not sure about Mac and PC, you'll need to ask them.

Re: Worth Picking up Cubase 7?
Cubase is awesome. But if you already have Ableton and know it well, you won't gain much by getting another DAW. They're all pretty good, why waste the time learning software you don't need? I think there's already scale and chord plugins in Ableton, plus a few third party plugins like Cthulhu that ...

Re: What laptops do you use
I'd say objectively. I'm certainly no fanboy of any product - a company is only as good as the last product they sold me. I've also always bought PCs. But if you inspect a MBP, you'll see that they're very well made. My current PC is made of plastic, as are most PC laptops. Whereas the MBP is made o...

Re: What laptops do you use
@ those saying mac is priced too high. while i agree, nothing else compares on the market as far as laptops. i've used a lot of different laptops and nothing touches my macbook pro in my opinion of coarse. It depends what you mean by nothing touches it. If we're talking performance - there's plenty...

Re: What laptops do you use
SSD's have just come down in price a lot - you can get a 1Tb SSD now for about £500.
Also - in June, Intel is releasing their new CPU, Haswell. It offers reduced power consumption and faster processing, personally I'm holding out my upgrade until then.

Re: bouncing audio - am i loosing power low end power?
Yeah every time you process a sample you could potentially degrade it, especially the sub if you're using chorus, reverb or anything else that makes the sound wider. I find it's sometimes easier to just layer a sine sub in under a bass sound now, or I just duplicate the synth I'm working on and chan...

Re: List Of Members Collaboration // Collabs Thread
What DAW do you use? Cubase. Occasionally Ableton for sound design and experimenting/fun. I don't think this is too important anyhow, as we can just send stems. How long have you been producing for? About 2-3 years. What VSTs do you favour? Synths - Diva, Massive, FM8 are my main ones but I love tr...

Instead of a rep system, how about a thanks button or like button? Then there's no negs involved, just a like everytime you help someone out.

Re: Waves 9 plugins and Live 9 compatability
Ah sorry I didn't realise you were on a Mac, I don't know a lot about them, but my guess would be that the waveshell you have is 32bit, and you need the 64bit one for Ableton.

Re: Waves 9 plugins and Live 9 compatability
Well it depends on how you have your folders set up I guess. My Ableton is 64bit, whereas I use Cubase too which is 32bit. So I have a "VST Plugins" folder in C:\Program Files(x86) and in C:\Program Files. In Ableton you can choose a custom folder for your VSTs and mine points to the 64bit...

Re: Waves 9 plugins and Live 9 compatability
Mine work fine on Live 9, I've got the waveshell dll in my 64bit vst folder and it finds it straight away. Then just appears as a folder in Live. So I don't really know what the problem could be, they seem to be compatible.

Re: Psychoacoustics
For instance, though the ear can detect movements smaller than a hydrogen atom (no shit, go check it up) I just did! Interesting stuff, I had no idea our ears were that sensitive. For instance, a square wave has no fundamental frequency and consists solely of harmonics, yet due to the relationship ...

Re: Production Forum - spring review
lol @ cubeass, too. Cubase is a phenomenally good program, I really don't understand why people knock it! It's my main DAW, I've tried out most others and always come back to it. Once you customise it and assign shortcuts and macros it's fast as fuck. It is lacking a few features, but it'...

Yeah that's different to digital hard clipping, you're thinking of soft analog clipping.YeahItsMe wrote:Originally, distortion was created by raising levels and having your meters clip

It Rockwell's masterclass vid, he adds loads of gain to everything and you can see everything clipping on the channel and mast/bus meters lol Mate, firstly that's a 40 minute video. I did actually watch it a few months back so I don't fancy sitting through it all again. What part of the video do yo...
