yea it's pretty disappointing how many people post statements without proper research. Check it out people, you have 2 choices: A) preface your 'claim' with the phrase "I think.." OR B) Do the research and/Or Cite your source if challenged. saying that you just heard it somewhere is bullsh...

Re: Tuning drums
There is something to be said about when the kick fundamental is tuned to the key of the track. It's when the bass and kick hit together. I don't quite fully understand technically why this happens so I won't try and explain that, but it feels more 'right' when they are tuned. The impact is more 'co...

Re: Writing Coherent Bass Parts
If the OP is trying to get the complextro style of arrangement down, it takes legitimate practice. A good starting point is Ryan Enzed's videos on youtube. Dude has done 3 that I know of. All of which will cover what you're after...Some better than others, but yea man search MOAR

Re: Best software for beginners?
That was kind of debunked to do the justification and organization work for you. Bottom line is, no DAW is beginner friendly. They are all in some way or another, overwhelming when you're a beginner. They are all capable, and unique in their own right. Because of that, the best chance you can give y...

Re: Sam Laxton Bass!
yea meng. use one or two formant tables layered with other BASIC wave forms. I'm not saying any of the other manipulated waveforms CAN'T get you those sounds, it's just that the ones currently popular today are using basic operators with pitch settings and formant tables. I've found that less is mor...

Re: oldskool rave sound - help me to recreate
use square or saw waves. On the filter assign an envelope to cutoff and resonance. Dialing in those parameters will get that sound, perhaps with an added flanger?...Open to being corrected on this but in your example, it without a doubt has an envelope with a long(er) attack and short(er) delay. Che...

@ Dubunked: Yes, I do realize that, that's why I posted that particular song. Artwork is also the 3rd member. @Huty: To be fair, I think I am getting 'over' that sound. I know it's been done in the world of EDM for far too long now (yes, I agree with that OPINION). For myself, I'm kinda plateauing o...

Re: Adventure Club
I know I'm committing forum suicide here, but I like Adventure Club and Krewella. I'm well aware that their sound design is widely recycled, if not sampled, and generally not very 'well done', so to speak. I'm well aware of both groups 'mass appeal' but that's not why I MYSELF like them. I like them...

Re: Steps/VST for a good Kick with vegance sample pack?
when you audition a sample, be looking at spectrum (the stock freq analyzer plugin) at the same time. The setting, "Accurate-Fast" helps me see what's going on. Pay attention to what peaks where and how your ear interprets what you're seeing on the analyzer. Then audition more kicks and ge...

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
@Hightrix: There are some good technical aspects going on in both examples...EQ/filter some of those highs and you'll be off to a descent start. @sofarmusic: not so much dude...revisit how you're achieving movement, synthesis, and apply EQ...I wouldn't push that thing as it's kinda done-zo. @blinkes...

Are you all serious? Clearly no one here has read it...I know it's long but there are several examples of damn good Reese bass's that sound like those guys....I'm just at a loss these days trying to give back to others... It's the way the core sounds are modulated and used in an arrangement context....

Re: Adding sub to resampled bass
@OP: I think I know exactly where you're coming from. For myself, taking a gnarly resampled sound and then layering a straight sine sub underneath it, doesn't provide the same feel/movement, nor does it compliment the sound as well as when you modulate the sub the same 'dominant' way the mid sound i...

at the end of the day, I'm more so influenced to open ableton, than I am influenced to create a particular piece/sound/arrangement...Inevitably, regardless of how something comes to fruition , it's plausible to draw conclusions based on the final product containing external influences. Re: super stereo sound
To be honest, the sound itself doesn't have much mid/upper mid presence anyways...I feel like dimension expander, pan position, some pitch cutoff under unisono spread to start. Then use notch filters/eq, short delays/filter delays, stereo widening...These tools WILL get you that sound. In fact all o...

>I'll tell you what...People have been saying this for quite some time now, but until you do it, you'll never know. Re: MUST DIE! Vowel bass help
...I'm sure the original patch/sustained patch had minor formant modulation going on. While there is a clear definition to the modulating, the formant filtering/eqing isn't as deep as others that I've heard. I'd figure one or more formant versions of an osc in massive OR several resamples of layerin...

MUST WATCH: New Daft Punk album vid. Insight/Inspiration :)
This video is a refreshing look at EDM today and how it's been influencing pioneers such as Daft Punk and those involved. It's opened my eyes quite a bit in that those bits and pieces I've heard previewed from the album, have led me to assume I may not like the music they've tirelessly worked on. Ho...
