ccmixter is good for that. People upload their own homemade accapellas and then you can use them for free . Watch out for licence issues though because some are only for not for profit use. That could be a problem if you got signed and stuff.

Sidechaining is much cooler on pads and other melodic content than it is on bass I think. I think it's pretty hard to tell I always feel like I've either added too much or too little to my tracks. You've got to stop somewhere though and just be happy with what you've got
