Re: You have 400$ on software... Go!
Komplete 8 Ultimate used.... anything you could ever need. Absynth, Massive, Kontakt, Reaktor, Guitar Rig 5 and the list goes on and on and on. It's definitely worth it trust me. There were a couple people selling it on the boards awhile back maybe you could have some luck there. EDIT: Will probably...

Re: Clipping as intentional FX on drums
https://soundcloud.com/azuk-1/clean-drums the snare sounds OK, but you definitely need a little more high end in the kick because it doesn't have that click that others do. Also, I really encourage you to do more research on layering even if you think you're good at it because you can always get be...

Re: Suggestions on a keyboard
MPK61 is semi weighted as well. Do the pad mod and you have a dope controller. Might be a bit outside your budget though. yeahh definitely out of my budget, I've looked at my finances for college and such and the max I can spend is around 200 dollars. I might just wait it out till I more to spend b...

Suggestions on a keyboard
So I'm looking for a 61+ key keyboard to get for my room. My price range is tentatively 50 to 250 dollars. I would really like it to have weighted keys and a pedal (can be purchased separately if necessary). Just wondering what you guys recommend either from experience or from something you've read ...

Re: Clipping as intentional FX on drums
to be brutally honest.... Those drums sound really really bad, they would easily get covered up in a mix. The kick and snare have no weight and they sound extremely low quality which is something I doubt you were going for. If you want to hear a snare limited to shit the 'right' way, go listen to a ...

Paying more attention to percussion
So I've noticed that loads of recent "dubstep" songs have really stale percussion. Just thought that I'd recommend listening to this album if you want to hear percussion done right.

Re: How do yous guys calibrate for subass
Since my headphones don't have great low frequency response I usually take a look at where other tracks are peaking at under 100 hz and adjust it after seeing that. Probably not the best way but it's better than winging it.

Re: Best software for beginners?
It's OK, but to be fair I haven't yet given it a chance and delved into it too deep. It is pretty fun just to make drum beats in there though.xburtonchic wrote:What do you all think of Maschine and Massive?
I was gonna use Reason but maybe I'll use Ableton instead...

Re: Retracted
Seems like a 4 person group would be way too hard to work with. When I'm doing a collab, I really have to feel the song in order to actually have fun working on it. I really can't see 4 people all being on the same page and taking each song in the direction that every group member wants it to go in...

Re: When writing a song what's the first thing YOU go to?
I pretty much always start with drums, I'm trying to stop this for a while though because it's definitely slowing things down. I always end up trying to perfect a 16 bar drum loop and by the time I get around to messing around with chord progressions and melodies I'm sick of the drums I've made and...

Re: Best software for beginners?
What worked for me was starting off in FL Studio. After a couple months of using that I switched to Ableton and have been using that for the past year and a half. I love the workflow in Ableton but IMO it has a steeper learning curve than FL Studio. FL Studio has better synths built in, but if you w...

Re: Transposing vocals like an instrument?
Ok here's how I would do it using Ableton 8 or 9. Right click the clip you want to chop up and select "Slice to new MIDI track." A dialogue box should pop up and select either 1/4 notes or 1/8 (That's what I suggest). Now you should have a new MIDI track which a bunch of vocal chops. Rearr...

Re: When writing a song what's the first thing YOU go to?
A catchy chord progression and melody! Yeah that's the way to go. The only problem I have his when I start transferring all the midi to instruments, sound design tends to make me lose my creativity :u: I usually start with a couple piano tracks so I don't have to worry too much about sound design. ...

use a waveshaper and also get the base sound as thick as you can before adding distortion.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
another random question... if i'm using ableton 8 on a mac and i want to collaborate online with someone using 9, what is the easiest way to do this? i would like to use dropbox to share our files, but i don't know how to handle the compatibility issues. for example, only i can start projects becau...
