Re: Beat Music Makers
Yep, it's all python code. Max4Live has gotten pretty powerful but I don't wanna have to have a bunch of max devices inserted. I'd rather code the behavior behind the scenes and have it be all slick from the get go. I wonder if you could build a DIY Push and then clone the script for it. That guy di...

Re: Beat Music Makers
Lately I've been looking into writing custom remote scripts for ableton. I wanna turn my MPK into a powerhouse controller. It'd be slick to have a bunch of different modes to switch between, regular mixer view, device control view, arrange view, clip edit view with the rotary encoders controlling zo...

Actually it woulda been hilarious to edit in some demonic voices. "This is the Dark Lord.... every time you watch the Ellen show, I murder a puppy"

Re: Thinking out loud...
It's basically just random noise. Either quantization errors or noise suppression artifacts. I once ran the Carebears theme song through iZotope RX Denoiser cranked up to full and the ghost of Noheart came and told me I need to go outside more.

Re: The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread
Just automate a sine's volume into a saturator, or automate the drive of the saturator itself. And/or automate a lowpass filter.

Re: DJs these days
DJing is like putting together an art gallery of nice paintings. You can do a good job as a curator to the point of bordering on art, but I don't think it really qualifies. People will come to the gallery to appreciate the painters, not you. You're an accessory to art. Like I said earlier, you can m...

Re: DJs these days
I don't see DJing as a skillful thing to begin with. Imo DJing is just for ppl who can't produce or for producers who want to make some money because everyone just pirates their tunes anyway. DJing for me is about entertainment, not skill. If I wanted to impress people I would show them my producti...

"guitar pedal"?
That thing's more of a footstool than a pedal.

Re: FXpansion's Geist For Ultra Cheap
Yeah you can't play completely outside, you'll sound like a drunk garage band drummer. Dunno about a time limit on this offer. Can't imagine it'll last forever. You might be able to call in and find out, or tentatively commit and then not checkout. Then call back later and try to get it for the same...

Re: FXpansion's Geist For Ultra Cheap
I can't really dig step sequencers. Flashbacks to my FL days. Once I realized that all the groove sits off the grid I never went back. But since I got a launchpad and found the Push emulation script I've toyed with getting into step sequencers again. Maybe not for notes but parameter automation. It'...

Yeah I don't even. Maybe they're coming out with a Geist 2 or something? Dunno, seems to only be musiciansfriend offering this deal.

Re: DJs these days
It's not really beatmatching if you're lining them up visually. By beatmatching, I mean getting them playing at the same bpm and the beats lined up. If all your tracks are the same bpm and you're relying on the grid on the screen to show you where to cue, it's not exactly beatmatching is it? Doesn't...

Re: DJs these days
This is the classic debate of whether skill plays a part in the value of a performer. If they're just pushing buttons but the music sounds good to the audience does that diminish their merit vs someone who's doing a lot of work to keep things stitched up tight? Depends on your perspective. If you're...

Re: DJs these days
I think he means DJing without headphones as in not actually cueing your tracks and just syncing/launching clips? Trying to beatmatch without headphones sounds like a recipe for ka-thunk ka-thunk trainwrecks. Unless you're using booth monitors but that isn't really viable in a small club setup.

Yeah but fuck you're getting paid either way, might as well actually do the shit and have fun. Instead of dragging ass through a phony set.

Re: Frustration.....
I've been in a rut for a while as well. Took a long break, switched DAWs and stopped smoking herb. Basically have to completely relearn my production habits. These phases of difficulty always precede a big jump in skill though so it's a good thing. The process seems to be: get bored > take time off ...

Re: DJs these days
I saw Steve Aoki way back in the day as a young lad, before electro blew up like it has now (/hipstr) He spent the whole time swinging from the rafters of the bar and pouring grey goose into people's mouths. Tracks were changing while the decks were 5 feet behind him. Didn't even make an attempt at ...
