Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@Danka: I like your melody it’s interesting. I would maybe switch out the hi hat cause for some reason it doesn’t seem to be vibing with the rest of the track. Maybe transpose it down a tone or two and see if it fits better… @jeer: after the drop, the mix isn’t quite right. The drums aren’t really p...

Re: I don't wanna jack that home studio thread so...
interesting... thanks for the advice guys. I'm leaning towards the A7Xs but I'll choose after I check em all out in Guitar Center. I gotta do more research on the Equators (the 5s I think) and the VXT6s And yeah my Macbook should last at least another year or so. It's old but it has 4 gigs of RAM......

Also, would a pair of used A7Xs for $1000 in 'excellent' condition be a good deal?

Re: I don't wanna jack that home studio thread so...
Getting some decent monitors would be my top priority as they can really make the difference Yeah, I agree. I would need to treat my room too. Just a typical bedroom sized maybe 12ft x 14ft. Not sure if those measurements affect the size of the monitors I would need. $3k is a lot of money. Whats yo...

If you had about $3000 USD (or ~2300 euro) to spend on a pair of monitors, an audio interface, and a midi keyboard, how would you spend your cash? If you had any leftover, you could maybe pick up a synth too. For the midi keyboard, I'd like at least 49 keys so I can begin learning to play the piano....

The Next Level
I'm sure many of us have put of lot of time and effort into this hobby. When I look back on the first tracks I ever made, I can see how far I've come as a producer. Yet, I'm still nowhere near the level I need to be at to satisfy my artistic urge. I can write a decent sounding tune every once in awh...

Re: is volume not relative?
what is a maximus?
but honestly i don't think anyone can really give you a definitive answer without hearing what the various alternatives sound like. maybe there's a sweet spot between 75% volume+nice bass vs. 100% loudness but poor bass.

i think there's more amazing music out there now than ever really. sure there will always be repetitive trends that people will repeat ad nauseum, but that doesn't mean you won't find some hidden gems out there. balam acab, clams casino, phaeleh, blackmill, dntel, bondax, disclosure, mount kimbie......

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
yeah i haven't really found a good solution to the cpu problem, i think i'm just going to have to bounce tracks a lot more often. another random question... if i'm using ableton 8 on a mac and i want to collaborate online with someone using 9, what is the easiest way to do this? i would like to use ...

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
ya i figured i would have to resample more. usually i just freeze and flatten the track, but compressors complicate things. i guess i have to freeze and flatten before i sidechain?

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
anyone have any advice on freezing tracks when you've got a sidechain compressor on it? i've reached my limits with my cpu and i can barely even listen to my music in ableton without exporting it now

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
dotcurrency- really like the arrangement and style of this but I feel like the intro is missing some mid frequencies. i can tell the synth has a lot of highs and the bass has a lot of lows, but maybe some stuff in the mid range would sound good. i like the cinema bells you got in there too lol might...

I don't use FM8, but I'd be interested in a tutorial if the technique could be used in a different synth... doesn't need to be super detailed I'm just curious about basic steps

Re: how to flesh out tracks?
Key has emotion aswell? say wha I wouldn't necessarily argue that each key has its own designated emotion. When I first started producing I liked to read about the traditional emotions some people assigned to keys a long long time ago, but I've found that it's mostly just bs... However, if you take...

Re: Tracks sound distant
please don't be offended by what i'm about to say as you're pretty decent for only producing for 6 months... but there are a few problems here. first, don't normalize anything ever. next, you can use even more compression but you need to use it differently. read up some more on compression. in addit...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
sure i can elaborate... what i mean by syncopation is mostly adding ghost kick and snares to give it more of a funky rhythm. if you're already using ghost kicks/snares then maybe i would turn up the velocity a tiny tiny bit on them. but on second listen of your track, i can hear some pretty great sy...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Eyesic – heavy bass man! I like it. The melody is pretty cool too but I think it would sound fuller with more chords instead of just one note melodies. Also I would take a little bit of the highs off the drums cause they sound like they need to be de-essed if you know what I’m sayin… anyways I think...
