Re: Which Vengeance Pack
I wouldn't go for a Vengeance Pack - the sound is a bit too polished for Dubstep. Get yourself a couple of the Goldbaby Packs - http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/ They're cheaper. Also there is a lot of free samples they give away to give you a feel for them - http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/freestuff.html The G...

Re: The Reese Bass
Here are a few reese~ish bass samples I made a few months ago when I still had time for making music. Hard to tell how I processed them... The only clue is that the 2nd number in the filename indicates how many times it was resampled.

Re: how to bitcrush only certain frequencies
You could also try keytracking the notch of your EQ but it may be a bitch to get right.

Re: how to bitcrush only certain frequencies
Either take out unwanted frequencies with a narrow Q notch EQ or send your signal to several sends and split frequencies with LP/BP/HP filters.
For just bitcrushing, the 1st option probably makes more sense.

1st layer is very 808~ish >> sine wave with instant attack, medium decay & release, possibly including a low volume 2nd sine an octave higher or a LPed square. Compress heavily. 2nd layer : it's hard to tell exactly what waveforms were used... Probably a mix of analog + digital waves with some d...

Re: broken note basses
can it be accomplished in Reason Does Reason have a couple decent synths and a sampler ? :) Seriously, it's impossible to tell what synth/fx chain they used or how many times they resampled their bass. Search for threads & tutorials about neuro and reese bass as well as resampling and layering....

In the need for dark atmospheric/sci-fi 140~ish BPM music
With lots of bleeps, crazy sfx & weird drum patterns à la Boxcutter's Rikta, Hiloz, Brood VIP or Elemental's Bleep, etc. Electronica meets dubstep kinda stuff

Re: Back at uni...any tips for working on a tight schedule?
I'm in the same boat. Just started a week ago, I don't even have much work yet but I just can't be bothered making music.
I guess it'll evolve at some point. Just do what you gotta do until then imo.

You can improve your room acoustics in a few ways that won't cost you much. I suggest you read this first to get familiar with room treatment. Then have a look at this thread , lots of good infos in there. I'm a noob at this but here are a few tips: * monitors placement: the 2 speakers and yourself ...

Re: Effects making my synths sound worse?
OP: make your synth sound as good as possible in the 1st place: make use of every single feature of your synth that can help fattening things up/make it more interesting (modulation is key). Then think about how you want your synth to sound like then look for the right effect to make it happen. If y...

Re: Mixes Sound Terrible on Headphones
Sounds like your room has shit acoustics. Check your speakers placement first: you & the 2 speakers should make an equilateral triangle and the tweeters should be at the same height as your ears. Also, consider making bass traps. That's much easier and cheaper than you might think (cost me 150 €...

Re: Anyone Using Machinedrum?
The UW version allows to import samples which is a significant upgrade but it's also very pricey, particularly since you may have to pay an additional 300 € for the +drive to store all your kits. It's 2MB sample memory right? Or is it more now? That's 1994 sizes. For that price it should be at leas...
