Re: Music Theory question

You don't have to. And you definitely don't have to keep your lines in one scale. look up the 11 major scale modes and their diatonic triads. Then check out the harmonic minor and melodic minor modes (all heptatonic). Then some pentatonic scales, and whatever else you fancy. That's a good start to w...

Re: Gear help

I don't know about PC's but as far as i know you'll need to download a driver for the interface and for my mac its firewire cable. From there to the monitors, i use a par of highZ speaker cables.

Re: Gear help

The tapco mixer does not appear to have any midi interface capability, but would come in handy for audio ins. Has mic preamps, pre and post aux sends. The M-Audio Interface is a big yes... grab it at that price too because you will need an audio interface to convert audio from your comp. and play th...

Re: Monitors or headphones?

I have found that composing in headphones gets overbearing on my ears. As for mixing, its impossible to do in phones and you'll go deaf trying. So get the monitors if you want to produce. That's my two cents.

Re: How to write for strings sections. (Really basic tip)

I believe that it is necessary to write the 11 if you play a fourth in addition to a third in a chord (the fourth is usually the next octave up, hence "11th"). If you replace the third with a fourth, its "sus" (for suspended). Also -- if, in a major chord you play a sharped fourt...

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JUNE, 2010

@RightOnTime -- Snare verb in the intro was too much for me, same for the poly synth rise thing. Im in headphones, but throughout it seems everything is right up front and on top of one another; i.e. no mix... Wasn't workin for me. @klevccs -- Your snare's big verb works well, and the two alternatin...

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JUNE, 2010

I was hoping someone could help me sort of classify this type of music ... its a higher tempo..
Something I've been working on the past couple of days. I am pretty new to production. Would appreciate tips greatly.

Thanks!

Re: Katy Perry - Hot n' cold dubstep remix....CHECK IT OUT!!!

Hey, well I can't stand that song or that artist but tbh I really like this track. Vocal mix sounds great and forms a sick groove. The drop on the chorus could use some (dare I say) wobble, if you ask me. Good job u got skills.

Re: TzudemK - Star Trek (Dubstep Grime)

A very broad, general criticism: I thought it could use more parts and more structure. On laptop speakers now, so it isn't a fair listen. But I am new to production as well.

Beginner new rap record -- feedback appreciated

Hi, I'm a beginner producer/vocalist trying to write songs and find my sound.... Would love to hear what you folks think of this record I did ... the sample is Peter Tosh's "Vampire" from No Nuclear War.
thanks!
