Re: Here you go: Excellent Mixdown Tuturial Video

Shows how little I care for other DAWs. I have protools, it came included in my tuition and I still use FL studio. I was born into audio with it and now every other DAw looks alien.

Re: Here you go: Excellent Mixdown Tuturial Video

I like them, he talks about headroom in the digital domain, identifies the import elements in the song, and mixes from silence up. One thing I don't get, is that he talks about mixing up to -6db, then goes and makes his kick hit -6db, which effectively means anything else he adds to it that plays at...

Re: help an idiot with some audio interface/cable questions

^Yea pretty sure that's what an XLR Combo is. You can connect 1/4 inch to the one pictured above. I'd have to double check the Saffire 6, but I'd be surprised if a modern interface wasn't what you picture above. So either TRS to TRS or XLR to TRS will work, either way, the monitors will likely rece...

Re: help an idiot with some audio interface/cable questions

XLR Combo means the that the jack will accept either and XLR cable or 1/4 inch cable. Just get two male/male balanced 1/4 inch cables. You'll be able to connect these to the monitors outputs on the saffire 6. APC and keyboard can connect via USB correct? You'll still be able to do this after you ge...

Re: help an idiot with some audio interface/cable questions

So after testing out some monitors and listening to a couple friends' set ups, I decided to go with a pair of KRK VXT6s. The 8s would be too big for my bedroom but these had just the right amount of bass. Anyways I was trying to decide on an audio interface. I don't know a single goddamn thing abou...

Re: Extreme writers block ._. Any solutions?

The only we've not really sorted is how to let people do drums. I think a lot of people are used to loading drum sounds into a basic sampler and arranging on the piano roll. That's how I would do it. Alternatively you can include a pack of drums zipped in the Competition OP, might be interesting to...

Re: Extreme writers block ._. Any solutions?

I'm definitely interested in this. 8 tracks, 2 sends, one of each type of processing plugin, how many synths, 2? hardware or software? Resampling to get around the track limit, is it shunned or encouraged? I can see myself using all 8 busses to do the drums, then render it out through the master and...

Re: I just can't seem to get that sound!

is there a good VST to use my keyboard as a pad and how do I record when I use it? My computer doesnt support ASIO. Also, how do I take away the delay from when I push the key to when the sound comes out? I have the asio for all driver thing that came with FL studio but when I use it for some reaso...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!

Yes. This is fundamental signal chaining, and in practice it may vary depending on what DAW you use. But functionally what you want to do is have ths EQ before the pitch shift. Make a boost of 3db or 6db between 4000 and 8000 and sweep it between this range until it sounds more understandeable, then...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!

Basically the effect makes the pitch of the voice adjustable. I lowered the pitch about 3 db (I think) I suspect you mean 3 semitones or octaves. Not coming down on you for it or anything. Just saying that you need to gain a good understanding of the terminology you're using so that you can underst...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!

Another tip: Back in time when I was a shitty producer (I'm not good now but I have some experience now ), to make my track not clip, instead of gently compressing different busses and playing with their volumes... I just put a limiter on my master. That is the worst thing you can do. I actual...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!

Understand that all plugins, or as you call them "devices", can change things in a sound in just a handful of ways: Dynamics, Frequency, Time, and Stereo if you really want to go there. 1) Dynamic processing pertains to anything that changes volume like compression/limiting, expansion/gat...

Re: Here to become an ARTIST, not a copycat. PLEASE HELP!!!

Okay so basically I use EQ8, compressor, reverb, spectrum, auto filter in most all of my productions. When I asked about devices, you seemed confused. Basically there's a TON of instrument effects and audio effects which I call "devices" that can be used. But which ones do I use often? An...
