Re: What synths do you use for pads?

FM synthesis (FM8 to be exact) is pretty much my go to for pads. Modulate loads of parameters and modulator volumes and you've instantly got a pad with a ridiculous amount of movement.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

ninthy4: Sounds great so far. I absolutely love the vinyl crackle in the intro. Absolutely massive drums, great bass tone, looking forward to see where this goes. jimbeaux: Not really my favorite style, but very well produced. Dug the beat and intro a lot, really great percussion all throughout. Lik...

Re: What advice would you give to beginners?

Have fun with it. The best motivation to do something is to really enjoy yourself while you're doing it. Also, at least when it comes to the way I make music, its important to listen to other music a little more actively and intently than you normally would. Any music, not just the style you hope to...

Re: you think brostep...

I think the problem is just that some dickheads taking moshing too far; its not about just punching people in the face, in a good pit people are just having fun and if someone falls down people help them up. Even if people drop something everyone clears out around them and lets them find it. At that...

Re: SKRILLEX - CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM ONLY PLEASE

So suddenly it's not an insult anymore? It's the "Good kind"? That's like if I said: Hey man you're a real asshole.... but you're the good kind of asshole  . It works, I know plenty of people I like who I'd call assholes (though I do agree with you that brostep isn't any real clearcu...

Used to hate moshing, then I saw Death Grips in NYC at some club downtown. Was fucking crazy
Couldn't find a video of the show I was at, but if you haven't heard them:

EDIT: Long intro. Actual song starts like 1:10

Re: I'm using envelopes instead of LFO's what a difference!

Or you can use neither and draw in your automation by hand (or with knob twisting awesomeness) This. One thing I've become really fond of recently, for basses, is to sample some complex "natural envelope" type sound (think didgeridoo or harmonica type of timbre and natural evolution), sli...

I really don't get this. As people have said, nice jeans look a whole lot better than a lot of what the club would probably be fine with people wearing.

Don't be scared; you'll just have to give it out free or record the piano yourself, note for note and switch a note or two. ^^^ I forgot about this option - re-record the piano bits yourself. I've had friends do that when they had a big commercial release that they didn't want to have to sample cle...

Re: GTA V

Is San Andreas worth playing? I slept on it cause I was too busy playing Counter-Strike back then haha. I'd say so, yeah. In a lot of ways I like Vice City more, but for me at least, the multiple cities in San Andreas really made it worth it. Just fucking about in the countryside and aimlessly driv...

Re: GTA V

Wow, was not expecting to hear Ogden's Nut Gone Flake in a GTA trailer. Looks cool, though I'm a bit disappointed about the lack of multiple cities, as driving in between them was really what made San Andreas for me. Have they definitely said not? Seems it was a pretty short trailer... maybe there'...

Horsepower Productions and 2562 are probably my only really big influences in terms of dubstep, but I'm definitely also influenced by DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus, Lee Perry, The Velvet Underground, Tom Waits, and Sergio Leone/Ennio Morricone's films/scores

Hitler was better looking than Churchill, better dressed than Churchill, and he could dance the pants off of Churchill, but we never hear about any of that.

Well massive works in semitones and 100ths of semitones... self explanatory there... Atticuh do you use FL? I cant remember... in FL, on the pitch knobs, 100 'cent' is 1 semitone... Really depends on what your doing it in... If anyone knows what gross beat's 'time' parameter collates to, Id love to...

Pretty new guy, not sure how popular he is, but I've really been digging this album lately. Has a real Boards of Canada type vibe, but still definitely maintains a personality of its own. Re: Pitch bending within a tonic scale

I know there are some soft synths out there with the feature to pitch bend through a certain mode or key, but assuming you're working with a synthesizer without the sparkles, how would you emulate such an effect (and keep the bend in key)? I guess portamento would be the closest you could get... Ei...

Re: Is the moneyshot thread too inaccessible for new produce

I definitely wouldn't say its too complicated for new producers. Probably a month (maybe less, even) into producing I looked at it, immediately went "ohh, that's why everything I've been doing sounds like shit", went into my mixer and turned everything down. Kinda just went from there. Org...
