i wonder why athletes don't boycott the olympics becos if they didnt go there wouldnt be any olympics. they have the ultimate power because it's a once/twice in a lifetime opportunity to be the best in the world. I'm a pretty socially conscious person, but if I was picked by my country to go and sh...

A textbook might also help you get the fundamentals. Agree'd, this book really helped me wrap my head about some important basics when I was first getting into production. (I recommend actually buying the book, but you can find a PDF of it online quite easily) http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Music-Manu...

Re: Bay Area roll call & EVENT SPECTACULAR
SF is - with a small handful of exceptions - a ghost town for shows these days unless you're into house. Which I am not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WhhSBgd3KI Fully agree'd, the scene is in a pretty sad state at the moment. Trap pretty much decimated the scene in my opinion, at least for all ...

Re: Making sound "sound" sampled?
A cheap 'outboard' technique that yields some interesting results is buying a cheap tape deck from a thrift/pawn shop and buying one of those tape deck adapters made for cars. Run your loop/sound through the tape adapter into the shitty tape deck and record the output back into your DAW. Watch out f...

Re: Burial to appear on James Blake's Radio 1 Show
would be cool but I didn't really get my hopes up reading this. starting to strongly feel its just an alias of a bigger producer. When you read his old interviews it doesnt really sound like any of the artists' style of talking/writing that Burial is speculated to be. http://blackdownsoundboy.blogs...

Re: Tips on using reverb?
This is something I've been doing for a while to keep the illusion of really long reverb tails while keeping the tails from muddying the mix/taking up too much headroom and its dead simple: Put a compressor after your reverb and gently sidechain (to taste) it to the master channel. Or something like...

If you make a tune that sounds good, people will play it.

Spent a solid 4-5 hours in Spacehall when I visited Berlin, such an amazing selection of new stuff and old gems. Great vibes and tons of listening stations too, I had a massive stack to listen to and never felt like I was hogging the spot. Theres a sick place in Budapest called Deep records, smallis...

It really just depends on what you're trying to achieve with the sound. Its not really a black and white; yes/no situation.

Re: ableton emergency
Click on 1.1.1, go to the "create" drop down on the top bar, select insert silence (command+I) and add in a bar. Will nudge your whole track properly and keep all the automation in it's proper place.
Then you can just get rid of that extra bar later when exporting your master.

Re: Mastering, mixing, loudness war and college!?!?!
Just an observation stemming from seeing you ask about putting ozone on each track in your daw, when mastering you should be working with a lossless render of your project (wav). If you are making corrections to the mixdown or structure of the song while trying to master it, it means you need to tak...
