D'oh. Hole too small - use a file, edge of screwdriver blade, anything hard-wearing and gently scrub a little off the inside of the hole. You'll be suprised how little you need to do this. Hole too big - get some tape or stickers and cut little strips - stick through the hole and attach either side...
