also what fucking difference does it make if it doesnt captivate a mainstream audience... if you like DUBSTEP what the fuck do you care if its underground/not mainstream... if people dont like it so you CHANGE it? that completely makes sense...
rapper makes intelligent hip hop b/c hes tired of gangster rap
ppl only like gangster rap
rapper decides to change his mind & just make gangster rap
Can't help but agree that as a genre the lines between the good stuff and the more artificial stuff we're seeing on things like UKF and chemical records are blurred. There is definitely a place for the kinda thing UKF and chemical put out, but I'm not quite sure if it's the same as dubstep.
Music does evolve though, so this could just be the next phase of the genre.
yo dawg I herd you liek dubstep so we put dubstep in your dubstep
Why does it matter what Dubstep is? Whatever it is... it's completely different to whatever it was at the start. Just like all scenes that catch on, it's evolved. Equally, just like all good genres, the pigeonholing & genre-naming has produced some horrific music & threatened to kill it all together.
To quote Derrick May -
"When we started, there was no names, no techno-this or hard-style that... it was just music.

Because this is dubstep forum. Not "music forum".
All the tracks in here are dubstep. There's an eclectic mix that shows the ways in which it's evolved. I can just go and post some Jeff Mills track in here, because it's not dubstep.

Yes but my point was that it's futile trying to explain or describe a scene as diverse & fragmented as "Dubstep".

I think this thread has done a pretty good job to be fair

For me, it takes away something of the experience of what Asteroids (or rather Asteroids VIP) used to have when I was listening to it. Something personal I guess.
